I need a virus (seriously)
I need some help from some of the other techno geeks here at DU. I work at a computer tech place on my college campus and I am in charge of doing some of the training for the new techs. One of the things we want to do is run them through uninstalling viruses from computers. Does anyone know where I can download viruses, like a few different ones? I want to put them on a disk so I could infect a few computers with different ones, and more than one in some cases. Thanks in advance- I know this is a weird request.

4. can't help you but good gawd...
...my university's IT dept screens half a dozen infected e-mails from my INBOX alone each day-- I know because they mark them as infected but send along the original text just in case they were something important. They never are, but they must get hundreds of attached trojans and viruses daily. I'd suggest contacting the IT dept of any large university if your campus has eluded this scourge-- hell, I wish you'd tell mine how you're doing it! Between the spam and the infections, I've had to tell my students that e-mail is no longer a reliable communications medium.

6. Just connect a Windows machine

to a broadband connection with firewall disabled and you should have a wide variety of flora to choose from. If you want to speed things up just go web browsing to some mainstream sites with Internet Explorer and click on all the popups. Should take about 5 minutes.

If you really want, e-mail me and I'll send you a couple out of the quarantine section of my server.

7. it's going to be on a 2000 machine
which makes it a Little harder because it's fairly secure compared to XP. I think I might see If I can get an XP machine and take all the updates off and see how far that gets me :). But as of right now it looks like I only have the 2k box to work with.

8. Seriously
I'd talk to one of the mail admins on campus. I'm sure they filter out hundreds (if not thousands) of viruses everyday. They can probably hook you up.

10. Here you go
http://www.62nds.co.nz/cgi-bin/x/e4015.html
http://www.rohitab.com/sourcecode/blackbat.html
You can also try alt.comp.virus.* or some of the other newsgroups.

FYI, you're going to have a heck of a time finding compiled viruses for download, because distributing live computer malware is illegal in most countries. These links are to the SOURCE CODE for the viruses, which is legal to distribute. To run the C based viruses you'll need a compiler (like GCC) to put them together. The VBS viruses, on the other hand, can be activated simply by saving the code onto your hard drive with the correct file extension, and then doubleclicking the file.

Also, realize that many AV scanners will freak when you visit these pages. When you view the website your computer will create a copy of the pages in cache. AV scanners will see the virus signatures in those newly created files, assume that you've been infected, and delete the files. This can also be a problem if you're trying to save the files onto your computer for transfer to another one.

If you need more, just Google "virus source code" or something similar.
