3. It is pop!
For instance, you might go to the pop machine...you would not go to the soda machine.

At least here in Illinois. :-)

8. You Know Who's REALLY Screwed Up?
The people who call pop "coke". I was in Kentucky a few years back, a waitress asked me what I wanted and I said, "Coke".

She said, "What kind?"

I was confused (this was before Vanilla Coke was a normal thing, and even Cherry Coke wasn't that big). I said, "What kinds do you have?"

She said, "We have Pepsi Coke, Mountain Dew Coke, Root Beer Coke..."

I thought she was just screwing with me because I said a Coke product instead of Pepsi products, but my aunt (who lives in Paducah) said that's just what they call pop. All pop is coke.

Weirdos.

9. If you go to a 'pop machine' and put in your 65 cents
how does a man get out of that little opening at the bottom??

And you go to the 'Coke machine' or the 'Pepsi machine'

sheesh, y'all!

7. the great pop vs. soda controversy (website)
check out this website with a map of pop vs. soda frequency. It turns out I live right near the fault line, which goes just east of Rochester in upstate NY: east of the line it's soda, west it's pop:

10. I call them "soft drinks,"
if only to distinguish them from hard liquor, which I frequently mix into my soft drinks. ;)

That is not an Arkansas thing. That is an elperromagico thing.

23. I first heard the term "soda" at the age of 22
when I went to school at Cornell. I thought people were talking about ice cream sodas, because I had never heard the term used to refer to bottled soft drinks.

Another example of silly East Coast provincialism (like the fellow at Cornell who asked me in all seriousness if Minnesota had a seacoast.)

24. raised to say pop
in W Pa. But my Massachusetts grandparents called it "tonic." That was pretty strange. Where I'm from, soda meant "soda" with ice cream.
