AARRGGHH!! Online Mapping Services SUCK!!!
If have tried Mapquest in the past, and have gotten severely lost.

Today I had to visit a customer in Greenville PA. I tried Yahoo Maps. I tried following their directions, and they had me going from Pittsburgh to Greenville basically via Hudson Bay. I could have stopped at the North Pole for a Sno Cone and some Christmas shopping.

As I am cruising north on 19 following the directions and looking for some road I am supposed to make a right turn on, I realize I am far north of where I want to be. After asking for directions, I have to backtrack 10 miles and make a right on a road that was never included on the directions.

Suffice it to say Yahoo Maps was off by at least 20 miles. Perhaps it is the fact they are in the boonies, or maybe the maps are thrown off by Amish buggies.

1. Yup
I was once following their directions to get to a friends house when the road turned into a foot trail (there was an actual road that went to their home, just didn't make it into Mapquest for some reason).

2. I'm wondering if they outsourced
the mapping service data.

In their defense, though, I called 911 once only to find out our address did not exist in the GIS system. THey used aerial photographs to pick up all the houses and they missed one. They had our neighbor's address on our house.

4. That's why I have MapPoint and MapSource on my PC
... although, the latest version of MapSource has an error on my street!

5. have you, by any chance
considered investing in an atlas? Mapquest works well in cities, not as well in the country. you want country roads? either buy a John Denver CD or a RendMcnally atlas.

6. I may have to
I lost my GPS a year ago, so I can't rely on coordinates and the little yellow gadget to get me there.

Fortunately I don't need to get on the road much.

7. Try this one
http://www.mapsonus.com

It's fairly reliable, though I've found mapping mistakes with pretty much all of them...
