Hurricane Frances Predictions

I live on the Treasure Coast of Florida (just a bit north of WPB). It's predicted Hurricane Frances will hit us either directly or indirectly, Sat afternoon or Sun morning. This is a category 4 hurricane so far with no signs of decreasing. Of course, I have been planning a trip to Houston for months for this weekend and am leaving on Friday and returning on Tuesday. But now I will be worried about my pets (whom I am leaving with my petsitter). I'm thinking of taking my one cat, the one that's been sick and just recovered from surgery, with me on the flight to Houston. The vet said she should be OK if I take her in the cabin.

I could cancel my trip and drive to Tampa to spend the weekend there with a friend, bringing my animals along. The airline ticket is nonrefundable, though, and I have not seen my son in a year. I'm really torn on if I should go or not. :(

all I know is, if you can put off making a definite decision on this till later in the week I would. You know how unpredictible these storms are - it might miss you altogether.

Everyone here on the treasure coast is starting to board up and get ready to evacuate -- we learned from our West Coast neighbors that we can't wait til the last minute. I had already planned to be going to Houston this weekend, so I will be boarding up Thursday night and getting my animals to safe places. My dog and younger cat will be going with my pet sitter/vet assistant. My older cat will be going with me to Houston. I feel much better now that I know I have them all taken care of. Not too worried about the stuff in my apartment. I'm taking my photos, important papers, and laptop with me. Everything else is just stuff that I can replace if I have to. Hope everyone in the path of the hurricane stays safe!
