This is the best hockey in the world. Canada Cup in the 80s got me into hockey.

I'm on a hockey time-out right now (because of Bill f'n Wirtz) but I am going to watch.

8. Hockey

Here in St Paul, the residents of this city don't give a damn about the tournament. Few of us go to watch pro hockey in the Xcel Center in down town St Paul. True, some suburbanites will be going to the games but that's because they got the arena as a freebie at city resident expense and their tickets will be paid through corporate accounts.

The hockey arena was the idea of Norm Coleman who switched from Democrat to Republican when he was given lots of money by the Pukes. Nobody in this city wanted that arena as we were quite happy with the old Civic Center. But the crook stole our money and built the arena at our expense. Coleman even tried to steal our money to build a new baseball stadium for the Twins but we stopped him from stealing it.

While it may be true that the Canadians (BTW, many folks here refer to you as CaNUCKLEHEADS) will beat the USA, very few of us will be watching. I sure as heck won't, either.

But I'll be a good sport and wish you luck!

It's a Minnesota prejudice. They HATE having Canadians playing in NCAA college hockey. Luckily, the prejudice manifests itself rather lightheartedly.

As for me, I don't like prejudice one bit.

Dunno if you're old enough to remember when Paul + Gary Gait and Tom Marechek played on the Syracuse Orangemen lacrosse team. All three from from the Provinces. The 1990 squad was the best college team of any sport in USA history.

Unfortunately, because of a very minor infraction, they were stripped of the NCAA title. Damn shame because they defeated Loyola 21-9 in the final which is the equivalent of a 100-45 score in basketball.
