4. Harlan Ellison.

He's frequently apoplectic. Sometimes, he even writes that way. If you had no mouth but you must scream, you'd be apoplectic too!

7. I once heard Harlan Ellison talking about the word "apoplectic"
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 08:18 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
I think it was when he was hosting the "Hour 25" science fiction show on Pacifica Radio in Los Angeles back in the early 80's. He was saying that the expression "livid with rage" is not as powerful as "apoplectic with rage" and that most people really intend to use the word "apoplectic" when the use the word "livid" instead.

8. That's why I thought of ol' Harl when I saw that.
He used to talk about the word 'apoplectic' on Tom Snyder's show, back when Snyder had the Late Late Show. I remember Mr. Nownow and I were talking about seeing Harlan on LLS and mentioned it in front of my mother-in-law, who used to really like Tom Snyder. She thought Harlan Ellison was a grade-A asshole.

"I'm sure he'd be flattered that you felt that way," I said, laughing.

She didn't get it.
