I HATE When People Say "THAT IS GAY!"
When they don't like something.

It's one of the most annoying and just stupid things people can say.

"Man that shit is GAY."

"That book is gay."

"This thread is GAY."

"Gay."

Stuuuuuuuupid fuuuuuuuuuuuucking peeeeeeeeeeeeeople. :grr:

7. haha
Speakin of commies, the ironic thing is many of the things we take for granted in this country were once commie-socialist ideas that you would have seen in Eugene Debs' platform, I'll say it again but I dont think I would become an official democrat until Al Smith or perhaps FDR.

2. if it makes any difference
most people don't mean it in a derogatory way. i used to say it myself a lot until i realized what it really was that i was saying. so i guess next time someone says it, instead of getting mad and yelling, just talk to them honestly and tell them it's offensive. i'm sure a good number of people will then realize what they're saying and stop.

5. Same for me
I'm sure I said it when I was growing up, but wouldn't dare say it anymore. I'd like to think I've expanded my vocabulary by now...

6. I know what you're saying
Before I got more tolerant, you saw my guilt the other night if I recall, I would do the same thing, that said, I really am glad I turned around and realized first off, these are people too, they are free to love who they want to and second off, why should I care what someone does in their bedroom. A thing I like to do is tease people like that, you mean your book is homosexual? thats neat, who's he going out with, yes I am a smartass.

9. luckily for me
especially being out of high school now, i've found that as i've gotten more conscious, more aware, smarter, whatever you want to call it, i find myself spending less and less time with those who aren't in similar mindsets

8. I know what you mean.
Since I moved into my new place, I find that phrase particularly offensive. You see, my roommate is gay. And he and his S.O. are two of the most wonderful people I know! Now, when I hear some ignorant son of a bitch say, "That's so gay," I take it as a personal attack on Patrick and Marc.

11. people stumble into the gay section in the store
and I hear "oh that's sick!" "gross" blah blah blah. Usually the young bucks.

It gets worse when they start BROWSING the section - just to make comments about the box covers - usually this is a young lady trying to gross out her boyfriend. Or a guy who wants to "buy one for so and so, because HE'S SO GAY"

aaaarrrgggghhhhh! I know where you are coming from.

(it's sat night and all the kids come to browse the adult store - ohhhh naughty! it might be different if they BOUGHT SOMETHING!)

18. Also from the Simpsons, only good use of it I know:
When Nelson's bully friends find him kissing Lisa, they cluelessly say to him:

"You kissed a GIRL! That is so GAY!"

To me it's like the last word on a really stupid expression.

16. I have to admit, I have only heard of the expression ,on tv
It is usually meant to be offensive, or so it seems. It seems to be a high school term.I would end my conversation with the offender immediately.

21. I realize that this is a light thread, however,
I don't let my students use the term interchangeably with something they think is stupid. I call them on it every time I hear it. We usually only have trouble at the beginning of the school year.

I had one smart-ass eighth grader who asked me if I was offended because I was a homosexual. (I am not). I told him that I was not black, or Asian, or Muslim, but I would not tolerate any racist or ethnic slurs, either.

They don't get away with baiting me on this. I give one warning, then detention. I work in a racially and ethnically mixed school district. The principal backs me. If they want to hate anyone who is different, they can do it somewhere else, not in my classroom.

I don't think it is a high school thing. I hear it in middle schools and junior high schools. It is immature, but still hateful and hurtful. It needs to end.

22. My partner teaches at an 80% majority black high school in urban
Mississippi and hears it constantly. Its a major part of the vernacular. He doesn't allow it in class, but in the halls and before and after school, it is pervasive.

23. YOU ROCK!
We need more teachers like you! Not only ones that know the subject they are teaching, but do not tolerate bullying in ANY form! Good for you!!! You need a raise! (But, all teachers really need a raise!)

Brightest Blessings!
