Hurricane Jeanne... This is a bit trite of me... but I'm annoyed
that all of the primetime shows are pre-empted by coverage of the storm. Isn't it enough that they interrupt occassionally to let us know the progress? Do we have to watch it continuously inch its way over Florida? Damn... I'm bored tonight, and wanted to watch some shows. Is anyone else experiencing this here in Florida? Nothing on but weather tonight?

6. Wow... no power and no cable... was that a leftover from Ivan?
And no... for now, it doesn't look like it's headed your way, though it is headed mine (Tampa area). Looks like it's going through Orlando again, then north of Tampa, then swinging northeast again.

3. Much of the east coast is already without power.
We in the central area have the 3rd hurricane eye coming our way by morning. We will lose power before morning.

I guess put on a video.

4. Yeah... I have on an HBO movie now...
gave up on the networks... I guess I have gotten innured to hurricanes now... I would have appreciated this kind of coverage during Frances, but didn't get it. Now, it's not going to get here until the middle of the night and to no one in the viewing area, but it's all about Jeanne. I know... silly of me. Just bored.

5. I'm in California and not insensitive to people
in the path of the storm, but this coverage by the cable and network news is ridiculous. We hae our share of earthquakes, wildfires, torrential rains followed by mudslides, etc. and when really I need information, I turn to local channels and/or radio. If things are really, really bad I count on batteries, not CNN.

It's mostly hooey! Why is Anderson Cooper out there being battered? Guess they can risk their high priced talent since they are well insured. The worst part of it is that 'they' seem to enjoy it all so much.

7. the problem is
You're being rational and logical where this is just a case of titillation and PROFIT. Just remember all 'news'casting is about profit, via voyeurism. Ooh! Maybe we will see someone's home destroyed!

I don't think you are being trite, but my answer is, lol.

Just be safe!

9. Thanks ZW... I've pulled all my patio furniture in...
AGAIN... and fortunately my roof was repaired already from Frances, so I'm planning on sleeping through this one... I hope. You're right about the news... all about sensationalism.

10. I've never been able to figure out
why the news people think they have to have some poor flunky standing out in the wind and rain and try to broadcast. We aren't idiots when they say hurricane we know it is raining and really windy.

11. Hear hear... I can already tell that it's windy...
It's not that I don't appreciate the news telling me what the path is, or that our county is under an emergency (which they just said it is)... but they can tell me that every 10 minutes or so, why for three or four hours straight?

15. Friend just lost power in Boca Raton...I don't know what you'll be able to
watch...but I had a little batter powered B/W TV during one of our NC Hurricanes and it was handy to have.

I was looking for news though...cause it was scary. Maybe there are DVD
s that are batter powered so you can at least watch movies to take your mind off it?

16. :) Thanks... I get everything except for the broadcast stations...
which are all about the hurricane (NBC, ABC, and CBS). At least Starz has Kill Bill Vol.1 on at 9:00 which I haven't seen. Guess that's what I'll be watching. Satellite hasn't gone out yet.

18. Does Pat Roberts consider this the answer to his prayers?
After all, he prayed for hurricanes to smite the queer-loving sinners at Disney World. Power of prayer? Actually, I hold with Florida (Gainsville) novelist Harry Crews' comments on prayer: "Shit in one hand and pray in th'other, and see which fills up first."
