I've been in Playhouse for 3 years now. This year, we got a new director (our old director, "Mr. D" went back to Poland to be with his family). Mr. D was a GREAT director. He had a few great rules, too. 1. Use your own character!!! and 2. You never have to change yourself (things like hair, work, etc.) for a show.
Our new director, Ms. F. has broken both of these rules. We're doing M•A•S•H as the first play this year. It's a great play, too! Ms. F. told us to make our own characters and not just copy the show or movie. HOWEVER, when the actor playing Devine had a great idea for his character, she vetoed it saying that he "needs to be like the movie". Everyone is upset with this.
She is also making me cut my hair to fit the part of Frank Burns as portrayed in the M•A•S•H movie. FYI: Burns is a pompous ass who takes himself way too seriously. Being a hypocrite on top of that couldn't hurt, right? Anyway, I've been growing my hair for 4 years, and I really like it. I've found ways to make my hair look short, but to no avail. Ms. F. is adamant that I cut it.
I've decided to quit the show. If it was simply the matter that she is a bad director (she is) then I would stay on. But she's taken what used to be a completely student-run organization and turned it into a dictatorship... and she's the dictator.
What do you think? Mountains out of molehills?
