Poll question: Best 60s Record Producer?
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 03:01 PM by elperromagico
This is mainly a pop/R&B list, I admit. I'm sure I'm going to leave out a dozen choices, but that's life, isn't it? I'll include an Other option all the same.

4. Like I said, I knew I'd leave about a dozen people out.
There were too many great producers in the 60s to name all of them in a ten choice poll.

14. Hear, hear!!!
Yes, he has spent most of his life as mad as a March Hare(I have met him briefly. Crazy and really creepy.). That said, he invented shit that Martin tried, and failed, to copy. Spector was both seminal and pivotal in the production of modern music.

There are few REAL originals in rock music. Jeff Beck is one. Phil Spector is a real, stand-alone original.

8. Ever heard of Barry Gordy and Smokey Robinson?
They were really only responsible for about 60% of Motown's hits.

15. Holland and Dozier produced all of the Supremes hits,
which were the biggest Motown hits. And yes, I'll add Smokey. It's only fair.

20. Gordy did not produce many of the big 60s hits.
He was mainly a record exec by that point.

I've included Smokey, Holland/Dozier, and Whitfield, who produced many of the biggest Motown hits.

The Who, The Kinks, The Creation, Small Faces.....

Even Chad & Jeremy's 'A Summer Song'.
