I feel rotten.
One of our secretaries has been screwing up a lot lately. Finally I go to the manager to belly ache about it. He calls me into the office and explains the situation. Her husband has been drinking lots and missing lots of work and he finally got fired last week. I slunk out of the office feeling like shit.

1. No reason to feel that way. You didn't know. Now you do. No biggie.

2. But how would you know? Besides you didn't blow up at her, so now
you know what is going on and can be more tolerant.

3. You didn't know.
Try not to feel bad. I'm surprised your boss disclosed the personal details of another employee, though. But, at least now that you know, you'll be able to cut her some slack. So, that's good.

5. let up on yourself, Swede
you didn't know. But next time, talk to the person first before going to a manager. I did this recently with a coworker who seemed to be losing it a lot on the phone. He confided in me that both his elderly parents have cancer and he is so terribly stressed.
