2. In an initial phone interview, they are looking to screen for those who
go on to the next phase: in person interview.
You want to be yourself, answer questions as best you can. Don't go into unnecessary detail. You don't have the benefit of being able to see the interviewer and you don't want to bore him/her.
Don't end the call without a call-to-action with respect to the next step in the process. If possible, set a date for followup.
Speak clearly and at a reasonable pace. Don't babble and don't dawdle. Remember, they interviewer can't see you. Boredom sets in faster for an interviewer in a phone interview.
Make sure you understand what the next step is and when you will hear from them. The proper time to clear this up is at the end of the interview.
Be relaxed. Don't be on the computer or watching TV while interviewing.
Don't be afraid to ask "Did I answer your question?" if you're not sure if you did or not.
7. Have a rough outline of any points you want to discuss with the person
written out beforehand. You may also want to jot down notes as they're talking so you don't forget things they want to know. They can't see you, so take advantage of it! Good luck!
8. Thanks. I'd hope to have at least a day more to prepare (had a rough week
and am kind of tired, but what can I do?).I did print some stuff off from the company website so perhaps I can make it a point if I have time to show I've at least done some research.
11. If you're going to talk about the company itself
my suggestion is to skim it over and use information about the company that interests you or sticks out to talk about why you want to work for the company. You shouldn't need more than an hour or two to prepare well. Knock 'em dead!
