Stupid, but quick, question for regular Daily Show viewers
I got addicted just a couple of months ago, so pardon my ignorance.

Tonight, and occasionally, they have a little piece on featuring Stephen Colbert, in which he appears to do promos for shows, like "The Colbert Report", in which he "gives the truth a 5 minute head start, and then (drawing out a large knife) hunts it down."

There was one tonight for a show called "60 Seconds."

I am 99.9% sure these 'ads' are themselves skits that are **part** of the Daily Show, and heaven knows I have tried to find references to them elsewhere, but does Comedy Central ever give Colbert specials? I would rather be publically humiliated for even *thinking* these were real promotions of real Colbert specials than risking missing one.

Hoping you will understand and will provide certainty for me, in a genuine manner, and please do not cherry pick clues and promote bad intelligence just to make me feel better that I suspect such a thing exists -- because in the long run it will be harder on me if I am watching there tomorrow at 11PM with a case of beer and a bong and something like "Tough Crowd" comes on.

1. They're just jokes
And, sadly, Colbert hasn't gotten a special (that I know of).

Ed Helms has come on as a real monster. I didn't like him at first, but now I have a lot of appreciation for him.

2. Yes, the commercials are skits for.................
a fictional Stephen Colbert Talk Show. Comedy Central creates a new commercial for the show every few months that usually features a catchphrase of some sort.

My favorite catchphrase was, "It's French, bitch!"

3. You could call them concept jokes
There are no shows on Comedy Central like Colbert's, but they'd be damn funny if there were.

9. If I did not own my TV
and did not need it to watch Jon Stewart and the Daily Show,
I would have attempted to smash the face of Colin Quinn
a very long time ago.

Sources indicate that network executives have been displeased with the ratings performance of "Quinn," a spirited roundtable discussion of current issues with host Colin Quinn and guest comedians.

"Quinn" has been holding onto only about half of the audience tuning in to its 11 p.m. lead-in, "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart." "Daily," which is red-hot as of late, coming off a pair of Emmy wins and record ratings during the political conventions, has averaged 1.1 million total viewers this year through September 9, while "Quinn" has averaged 537,000 by the same measure.

I am however, deeply consoled by the idea that the floating turd will finally be flushed,
together with the orifice he came out of
http://www.artofresistance.org/bush_mosaic/
and hopefully also the five fingers
http://www.angrycandy.org/scbs/scbs.php
who placed that orifice in power in the first place.

12. Y'a know, comedy does not always succeed
Even the best comics hear crickets chirping after their jokes from time to time. Even Enrico Caruso missed high-C's on a regular basis. This stuff is hard, and it doesn't always work magnificently. Hey -- not everything artists, writers and actors do end up immortal, and that's okay. But great artists go on to do great stuff.

But Colin Quinn is just plain, uh, -- pointless. Never rises above the level of "gaaaad, who cares for this shit?"

What did astonish me about the stats you cited is that half of Stewart's audience continue to watch Quinn. Um -- have they passed out? Fallen asleep on the couch? Fantasize about having Stewart or Colbert's babies that they start fucking on the couch immediately after the Moment of Zen?

I just don't get it. Why do they float these never funny losers?

7. Colbert is King...
Seriously, Colbert is the best asset on that show, he could almost do his own. That other Steve guy was really awesome also, guess he is doing something else now.

When both Helms and Cordry made their first appearances, I had doubts, mainly because they were in Colbert's shadow. But they are rockin' hard.

I'd love for TDS to be made into an hour. Or be a feature in Gore TV.

10. He did sub for Stewart a few times
And he was wonderful. That was why I was having LOTS of wishful thinking about these wonderful "promos" I would see.

More off the wall, more Dada in nature. Out there. He did a piece a few weeks ago on "This week in God" that ended with him starting with yoga postures (which he is quite adept at) but morphing into stereotypical mime routines. Brilliant.

8. I do remember there was a special Daily Show
that was 1/2 hour of Colbert reports. I think it might have been a compilation, re-run, time filling kind of thing. It aired last November around the time Schwarzenegger was <shudder> elected.
