1. realmedia is shit when it come to editing...
If an item isn't important enough to put into Quicktime, it isn't worth your time. Sorry though, don't know of a program, check versiontracker.com

3. .rm to .avi....
TINRA (This Is Not Real Anymore) will convert RealMedia to .avi. The AVI can then be converted to .mpg with one of the more common avi-->mpg converters.

I didn't test this googled link. If it is bad, google TINRA and you should get numerous options....
