Trot Nixon has a message for Red Sox fans when it comes to future celebrations: Let us be the idiots, not you.

 ``We've got to reach out to the public and say, `Grow up!' '' Nixon said before yesterday's workout at Fenway. ``Act like you've won a championship before because you have with the Pats - twice.''
     The father of two young children, he said he was floored to hear that 21-year-old Emerson College student Victoria Snelgrove was fatally wounded after being struck in the face by a pepper-spray ball fired by a Boston police officer in an attempt to control an unruly mob on the street behind Fenway's famed Green Monster.
``I'd give Game 7 back to have her back,'' Nixon said. ``I really would. That is not fair. The Police Department have a difficult job to do trying to calm the situation. It's up to the public to enjoy the moment and not get stupid.''

it's been since 1918...although Boston has won their share of NBA titles, and more recently, Super Bowls.

3. Nixon's a good guy

He's clearly shaken by this girl's death; the quote about getting her back comes from the heart. You can disagree with his siding completely with the cops, but there's no doubting his sincerity.
