Diners lured by super guinea pig
BBC News

The larger breed is said to be meatier and tastier

Scientists in Peru hope a new breed of guinea pig will convert the world to one of their favourite delicacies.

A new super-sized version of the cuddly rodent has been developed at one of Peru's top universities.

Although in most of the world guinea pigs are enjoyed as pets - not ingredients - exporters hope the larger animal will be easier to sell abroad.

"It is really delicious," says Gloria Palacios, director of La Molina National University's export project.

2. this is fcked up, how would you cat people like to read about
bigger cats being bred as a delicacy? I've kept cavies since I was a kid and now my kids enjoy their company as pets. how about a little sensitivity?

4. I do have cats.
One asks me incessantly to open a can of some other dead animal to put in his bowl, he brings live birds and mice into the house to torture, eat and to leave me a thank offering carcass since I didn't have enough food to feed him -- or so he thinks I don't -- the cupboard is full.

Try visiting a farm and touch the animal from whence those hamburgers come.
