Do you do Online Banking?
I'm trying to decide whether to start paying my bills/credit cards/etc using Fleet/BankOfAmerica's online banking system.

Have people had good success with these things? Have they worked out, have you had any problems?

1. Works for us.
I have been doing it for years. My husband uses BOA and really likes the way it is set up.

4. So, you just put in all the info (acct number, address, etc)
And pay online and it all works out?

3. I pay all my bills online
But, one thing to keep in mind: you have to be careful if it's deducted automatically. The banks will just go ahead and do it, and if you're not ready for it, they'll do it anyway. What I do is pay online, but don't schedule payments-each month I pay the bills, and it's not automatically deducted so if there's a problem I can act to correct it before a check bounces.

6. we don't use BOA
but it sure is convenient...I haven't stepped into a bank five times this whole year. And check writing (at least for bills) is down to one per month...everything else is directly drafted from the acct.!

I love online banking!

8. No more standing in line!
I especially enjoy avoiding people I don't want to run into while in line, and their bratty kids.

9. Personally, I was totally disorganized til online banking
I get paid on the 15th and 30th every month. I schedule all my payments for the 15th and 30th. That way I know for a fact that everything left over on the 16th and 31st is mine to spend on food, gas, dog treats, etc.

I also have an overdraft protection that takes cash from my savings account if I mistakenly overdraw my checking (which is rare).

I used to bounce checks all over the place totally due to disorganization. Online banking - the ability to pay and have it deducted right that moment - literally helped turn me from a loser who couldn't even keep the damn telephone turned on into a 740 credit score person.

11. I love it!
I can transfer from savings to checking and it's instantaneous. I write two checks a month and everything else is online. You can schedule future payments, too. Don't, as a previous message said, allow automatic payments.

Just a note: after 9/11 mail delivery was in total disaray. I had several late payment charges, which were eventually dropped, but if I had online bill pay, I could have avoided those charges to start with.

12. No frigging way. Here's why:
Spyware and keylogging software will trace your steps.

Temp files store data.

Cache files store data.

Cookies store data.

Simply deleting the files isn't good enough as the data can easily be recovered.

Even if you use a multi-phase wiping program, the magnetic field itself can still hold juicy data that somebody with some money can get extracted.

Even if the hard drive platters are banged on with a hammer and cut up, they can still be read.

The platters need to be secured and liquefied before the data is truly and irrevocably gone.

(the same is more or less true for any external storage media. Just different methods are needed to annihilate the media.)

14. I pay everything online, but not automatically.
I like to specify when it comes out of the account. It's great. My bank (USAA) covers any late charges, but I haven't had a problem as of yet.

17. Works for me
Been doing it now for 5 or 6 years and had only 2 problems that turned out to be the bank's fault and they made it right.

No more worrying about will the mail be late and make my payment late...I can schedule it to be there right on the due date, I can schedule repeating payments and track everything.

I love it.
