Duped
I think I've been duped,what can I do?

I retired at the end of March. A past employee who I had a great relationship with contacted me to borrow almost $400.00, said she would pay me in June. That did not transpire. Then she was going to pay me when she received her money when she refinanced her house. For several weeks, she kept saying my money would be given back to me but there were some problems with refinancing, but definitely was getting the loan. This is end of October but so far no money. I've contacted her but she said loan was being delayed, what should I do?

Do I say this is money lost and learn never to loan people
money ? I think she received the money for the refinancing of her house- think she spent the money given to her. I'm really ticked!

If I go through small claims court, the money owed pays for the cost of small claims court.

Try to be nice and helpful... then I'm duped. I'm at the point where I don't want to be nice to anyone.

3. Not
This has never been a problem until I retired. She was always great paying me back before but during that time I was her boss. Maybe I should be a neocon, then I won't be used. Love to help others, but hate being duped.

2. actually, if you sue in small claims court . . .
you can add the court costs and any other costs you run up to the amount of the claim . . . at least here in New York you can, and I imagine it's similar elsewhere . . .
