Poll question: Best Song With A Type Of Bird In The Title
Plenty of other choices, too. It has to be a kind of bird, not just "bird" so, for example, don't yell out "Free Bird".

52. Arthur Lyman, 1961
Though I believe the song itself predates Lyman's version. He had the big hit with it here in the States, though.

60. joining the others
I had been examining the list and, not noticing "Surfin' Bird," thinking to myself, "what are these people, French? Am I the only 'Murkan here?' Then I saw that "Surfin' Bird had indeed made the list.

You just can't beat these lyrics:

>>
Papa-ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow-mow
Papa-ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow-mow
Ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow-mow
Papa-ooma-mow-mow, papa-ooma-mow-mow

and so forth.

25. "Bluebird" by Buffalo Springfield
Listen to my bluebird laugh.
She can't tell you why.
Deep within her heart, you see,
She knows only crying.
Just crying.
There she sits, a lofty perch.
Strangest color blue.
Flying is forgotten now.
Thinks only of you.
Just you.
So, get all those blues,
Must be a thousand hues.
And be just differently used.
You just know.
You sit there mesmerized
By the depth of those eyes
That you can't categorize.
She got soul.
She got soul.
She got soul.
She got soul!
Do you think she knows you?
Do you think at all?
Soon she's going to fly away.
Sadness is her own.
Reverse of a death of tears
And go home, and go home.

34. Raven Girl - Richard & Mimi Farina.
Now roam away my raven girl
And roam away from me
And find a typhoon in the sky
And find a howling sea

And beat your wild and roving wings
And toss your raven hair
And sing a mad and joyous song
And leave me with the dead

The night's a cold and barren place
The darkness seldom lies
The wind upon the howling sea
Will lift your feathers high

The sand that itches from the tide
Will claim the steps I've sown.
The whispers in the ocean deep
Will pick my weary bones

What murmurs in your raven heart
Have taken you from sleep
What raging on a foreign shore
Has left me here to weep

What clashing in the nightmare wind
Has stirred your angry dream
What thunder on the dark wing plain
Has never been foreseen

I long to rove amoung the seas
And hear the current cry
I long to blend among the waves
And never question why

I long to shift above the sands
And never come to rest
I long for raptures never known
While lying at your breast

So roam away my raven girl
And roam away from me
And find a typhoon in the sky
And find a howling sea

And beat your wild and roving wings
And toss your raven hair
And sing a mad and joyous song
And leave me with the dead

75. "Snowbird"
(feeling a little Elvis-y at the moment)

Beneath this snowy mantle cold and clean
The unborn grass lies waiting
for its coat to turn to green
The snowbird sings a song he always sings
And speaks to me of flowers
that will bloom again in spring

When I was young my heart was young then too
Anything that it would tell me,
that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life
Is the thing I can't win

Spread your tiny wings and fly away
And take the snow back with you
Where it came from on that day
The one I love forever is untrue
And if I could you know
that I would fly away with you

The breeze along the river seems to say
That she'll only break my heart again
should I decide to stay
So little snowbird take me with you when you go
To that land of gentle breezes
where the peaceful waters flow
