This Christian feels like the protagonist at the end of THE WICKER MAN...
I've been a progressive Christian for years, but I am scared out of my mind of the Dominionist onslaught that has reached its apex. Right now, I'm lookin' down at the cult swaying below and feeling a country in flames.

The Wicker Man, indeed.

1. While they're scary...
I don't think they'll last that long. Most apathetic Americans don't mind as long as they only beat up on Those Evil Awful People Over There (i.e. gays, feminists, "immoral Hollywood liberals," and the like), as long as they themselves get left alone.

But the point of the Dominionist agenda is that, eventually, it will have to expand from attacking "the other" and start to impact the "average Joe" or the female equivalent. For example, what happens if the Fundamentalist Hate Brigade actually manages to get Roe v. Wade overturned? Unless someone is overtly "pro-life," I don't think he's going to be too thrilled at the notion that, if his teenage daughter -- or his girlfriend -- should happen to get pregnant, he'll have no choice but to deal with the resulting child.

There are a lot of Americans who are libertarian in wanting no authority controlling their own lives, no matter how much they might demand that other people "shape up." When and if the time comes when the Hate Brigade gets to move from complaining about things to having the power to control them, they will lose those people so quickly it will make your head spin. And, without those people, they are still (at most) 22% of the population -- a pretty insignificant minority, if you ask me.

3. Good luck!
Not that you'll need that good luck, of course. I'm a Christian who's progressive on politics and somewhat conservative on many non-political theological issues, so I go to this evangelical church that makes me feel like strangling everyone else there sometimes. Just keep doing your best and pray for those OTHER people. :)

4. It's built on a foundation of sand - can't support its own weight
We just have to limit the damage and be willing to do some drastic corrections afterwards.

Assuming we win, that is.
