I Love The Smell of Steely in the Morning
For short bus and the rest of the KOOL cats...

KING OF THE WORLD

Hello one and all
Was it you I used to know
Can't you hear me call
On this old ham radio
All I got to say
I'm alive and feeling fine
If you come my way
You can share my poison wine
CHORUS:
No marigolds in the promised land
There's a hole in the ground
Where they used to grow
Any man left on the Rio Grande
Is the king of the world
As far as I know

I don't want your bread
I don't need your helping hand
I can't be no savage
I can't be no highwayman
Show me where you are
You and I will spend this day
Driving in my car
Through the ruins of Santa Fe

CHORUS

I'm reading last year's papers
Although I don't know why
Assassins cons and rapers
Might as well die

If you come around
No more pain and no regrets
Watch the sun go brown
Smoking cobalt cigarettes
There's no need to hide
Taking things the easy way
If I stay inside
I might live til Saturday

CHORUS

1. their songs have held up really well over the years
Pretzel Logic still sounds really good, as does a lot of the older stuff.

9. Have you heard their two newest albums?
Edited on Thu Nov-11-04 11:29 AM by DemXCGI
Two Against Nature was fantastic.
And I personally enjoyed Everything Must Go. They really haven't changed much, but the music they write is tighter, more effective now.
On Edit: Changed "The Last Mall" to it's correct title: "Everything Must Go", 'cause I'm an Idiot(tm).

5. When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul

Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll

6. Love it!
That whole record was years ahead of anything in the pop/jazz comb. From 1975 no less.

10. I have to say redqueen
there are times when they've kept me sane in insane situations...like, for example...I don't know, the current "election"

11. K, for all you steely dan fans...
If you really love Joe Jackson, Donald Fagan and those guys...

Check out an english band called Corduroy. It's right up your alley, specifically around the "London/England" era.

15. California tumbles into the sea
That'll be the day I go
Back to Annandale

Tried to warn you
About Chino and Daddy Gee
But I can't seem to get to you
Through the U.S. Mail

Well I hear the whistle but I can't go
I'm gonna take her down to Mexico
She said oh no
Guadalajara won't do now

21. I like many of their lyrics
so coy, so cool, so cryptic, but today this is stuck in my head.
THROUGH WITH BUZZ

He takes all my money
You know I'm through with Buzz
Yes I'm through with Buzz,
All right, oh yeah, uh huh

He's not very funny
You know I'm through with Buzz
Yes I'm through with Buzz,
All right, oh yeah, uh huh

(this stanza is my favorite)
I remember when he stole my girl
Drug her all around the world
You know I'm cool, yes I feel alright
'Cept when I'm in my room and it's late at night

Maybe he's a fairy
You know I'm through with Buzz
Yes I'm through with Buzz
All right, oh yeah, uh huh, all right
