Poll question: Best 80s arcade game
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 07:00 AM by jchild
In the 80s, I prefered hanging out in the gameroom to all other activities. I won't reveal my favorite so as not to skew the poll :-)

So, of the choices below, which was your favorite?

21. Frogger inspired a song that was much better than the awful....
"Pac Man Fever" :puke:

And that would be this Bad Religion classic.....

(Nice going, spazz)
I'm tired of this city, all this toil and strife.
Trying to cross the boulevard, playing Frogger with my life.

7. Galaga!!
Me and a friend of mine still play the hell out of Galaga whenever we see it at a bar or movie theater. I love that game to the point I've made inquiries about acquiring the actual arcade cabinet to put in my home. I definitely could've bought one with all the coins I've pumped into it over the last 20 years.

I love it too...the only thing I hate is that after you get to 999,999 it rolls back over to 0.

I wish I had one in the house...I put lots of quarters in the game too.

Welcome to DU :toast:

12. POLL EDITED to add Defender and Tempest...
Hey, this was my first poll...be gentle with me!

Now the results will be skewed because I changed the selection in the middle of the poll, but no one had voted for the two selections I deleted, so it won't be too bad, maybe.

Like I said, I had put games up that I remembered, including the ones I thought sucked the most...wanted to see if anyone liked them.

Man, you gamers get violent, don't you! :-) :-)

15. You forgot MS Pac-Man!
Pac-Man was a great game, but Ms. Pac-Man was an improvement on it. I haven't seen a Pac-Man machine anywhere in years and years, but I still see Ms. Pac-Man machines around here and there. I am the best Ms. Pac-Man player I've ever seen. I can get to the end of the game. I've only ever seen one other guy who could do that, but he didn't have as many points as I did when he got there. Anyway, I voted for Pac-Man but I would have voted for Ms. Pac-Man if it had been one of the choices. Galaga is a great game too and it is my third choice. I was a pretty good Galaga player too, one of the better ones I've seen, but I did see people who were better at it than I was.

24. The only video game I ever beat, Robotron!
Played for 3 1/2 hours on one quarter but got tired of it after I'd demolished the high score and flipped the screens(started back at level one) and so I killed off my little men just to see how many lives I had left.

I also liked Joust, Star Wars, Burgertime, Jungle Hunt, and Moon Patrol. I worked as a gameroom attendant at a Chuck E Cheese in 1982 so I played them all daily. I used to skip the more popular ones like Donkey Kong, Frogger and Centipede and try to figure out the more obscure ones. There was this one called Crystal Castles that was pretty cool.

:-) I picked Q*Bert by default...

I was addicted to this game, which was neatly placed in the corner of my favorite pizza joint in college. I miss it so, but luckily, you can still play it on Shockwave.

Anyone else remember this one? The one at the pizza joint was a Budweiser Tapper game; most of them were refitted as Root Beer Tappers when parents started complaining. ;-)

And for more current games, I'd have to go with Doom I & II, Quake and Wolfenstien. Ya know, come to think of it, the lay out of Wolfenstien (it's set in Nazi Germany for those who don't know...the plot of the game, well, KILL THE NAZIS!!!!!!) kind of reminds me of what the White House must look like now, ya know, with pix of HITLER and SWASTICAS EVERYWHERE!

51. I LOVED Death Race
wasn't that the one where you ran people over and they turned into little tombstones? I remember playing that... across town in the arcade... driving back home I'd still be in "kill" mode! I must have only been 17 so it was still the '70s. The other game we liked in that arcade was biplane.

I used to play Sinistar in a 7-11 on the north side of town... another favorite there was Bosconian... I played that one for hours.

The first game I remember playing anywhere was in Thrifty Drugs... it was a game where you shot flying saucers and rockets... must have been around 1973-4? I remember it was by the machine my dad used to test TV tubes...
