Chicago Baseball...No Joy On The Other Side Of Town
Tonight is not going to be a very good time around my household. After a day of hearing non-stop "Go Cubs" and putting up with the ramblings of erstwhile baseball fans (the remnants of the Jordan fans, Ditka Fans, etc.) and obnoxious Cub fans, I will await how the Cubs fare again the Braves in a state of depression. No amount of drink or other substance can help here.

The reason is about three weeks ago, my team...also in Chicago, was 2 games ahead of Minnesota and looking like post-season was a mere formality. Then instead of the Cubs doing their usual swan dive, the White Sox performed one of the best Hemlich manuevers in this city's sorrid sports history.

I was actually looking forward to having both Chicago teams in the playoffs (to shut up the NY/LA/SF fans out there) and the fantasy of a Cub/Sox series where we kick their ass in 4 games. Oh well, instead me and my White Sox loving family went through two weeks of pure baseball frustration and hell. Firing Manager Jerry Manuel, who almost lost his job for a crappy first half, is not even consolation for missing what could have been the biggest baseball dance this city has ever seen.

Now I wish the Cubs well, and for their long suffering die-hards I wish them the best in the playoffs. While it'll be difficult, I will wish the North Side baseball team (see how difficult this is) the best of luck in the playoffs...well maybe not ALL that much luck :argh:
