I wish I was in my thirties again. Physically you're still young but mentally you're mature. That decade is the last, intoxicating dance near the edge of an abyss and there's no danger of falling yet because you're protected by a fence and the sign on the fencepost reads "40". Turning 30 is a big one. You are definitely out there in the middle of the lake.
I wasn't too thrilled to turn 50. I'm told that turning 60 isn't as traumatic. By the time you hit 70 you're counting how many years you've got left.
When I was a kid I wasn't going to be like those people who expressed regret about how fast it all went. Little did I know. It's astonishing how fast it goes. And you don't get many do-overs, even after you know the deal.
