9. I like that a lot!
I wish I could see these up close. There seems to be some great detail in there.
Do you sell them or just for pleasure?

8. These are not as...
...whimsical as they appear.

The landscape is made of dozens of layers of poured blobs.
Carefully plotted. About 40 gallons of paint.

Yes, maybe a bit crazy....:)
What can you do?

44. Holy crow! 40 gallons of paint?!
They must weigh a hell of a lot! Shipping costs would be extraordinary.

I love the texture of them...I want to touch them and see them in different light and shadows.

14. They are slightly....
...reliefs.

Each layer, each poured blob sticks out about an eigth to a quarter inch or so.

So there is some texture.
You can see where the paint flows between the forms....

How do you get the paint to stick to the AL without sliding down? Many, many layers, I guess... but do you use heat?

Your work is wonderful SLPony, lyrical and luscious.

The new one is great. I really like your methods of stylising landscape forms, especially the way you've ranked the clouds - all those little ones arcing across the sky, and their solidity echoing the rocks. The only thing I would question is the soft grey passage where the mountain is reflected in the lake. For me, the blurring there jars with the clarity of the reflected trees.

I'm interested to know why you use aluminium as a surface.

27. Well...
One thing about pouring paint...

You really shouldn't complain about your results.
You can't be too anal about it.

As to the aluminum...
I needed a flat, smooth surface.
It was the obvious choice.

29. true
I'm partial to letting the paint do its own thing myself. I can kill a picture stone dead with too much control. (Didn't intend to offend with my remark, just took you at your word when you wrote "Crits welcome".)

Re the aluminium, its smoothness is appealing, and I guess the thick paint wouldn't handle the flexibility of canvas well. Do you add filler to the paint or use it straight?

36. yeah, filler
Like gesso or something, to make the paint thicker, give it more body. But on re-reading what you wrote above about applying layers and layers, I'm guessing you don't add nuthin', besides the pigment.

How long did it take? It's huge - did you work from the center out in all directions? And, sorry if this was asked already, did you form the shapes directly on the piece?

Really fascinating - thanks for sharing!

It would be nice to be able to do something of this quality one day. I'm curious -- what mediums did you use on painting #2?

...are:

Latex House Paint (Benjamin Moore)
Powdered Pigments
Powdered Graphite
Hair, bristles, detrius...
Rustoleum Acrylic Clear Coat Spray.

None of my work involves the use of a paint brush -ever.
