Most memorable Johnny Carson moments.
I can remember in my youth of sneaking on the TV to watch JC. Way past my bedtime. Best moments were when Don Rickles were on. My fondest memory of JC was watching how Rickles could make him laugh.
Yours?

1. Arnold Palmer's wife was on once..................
a LONG time ago. He was interviewing her and she related the story that she kissed each one of his balls before he'd put them in his golf bag before the start of play. Johnny's response........"I bet that makes his putter flutter". As a kid, I thought that was very risque.

3. Jane Fonda
asking him whether it was true that ZsaZsa gabor was on his show one night and, with her cat on her lap, ZsaZsa asked Johnny whether he wanted to pet her pussy. Johnny's alleged reply: "Sure, if you move that damned cat out of the way."

If you don't know what that is all about you missed the longest sustained laugh in TV history.

9. My personal favorite.
It wasn't a joke, exactly, unless the joke was on me.

I was about 15 or so, and I was babysitting. The kids had long since gone to bed, and I was in the living room on the couch with a bowl of popcorn watching The Tonight Show. I was doing the head-nodding, dozing-off thing when all of a sudden I heard Carson say, "Are you sleeping!?" It so startled me that I jumped up and spilled the bowl of popcorn.

It was during his monologue, and I don't know what led up to that remark (because I WAS sleeping!), but found it quite funny in retrospect.

What sound does an exploding sheep make?

OH MY GOD.. To this day, I cannot hear that joke without cracking up.
Hands down, my favorite Carnac moment.

-chef-

Edited to add: When I was little, I was convinced that Johnny was some kind of long lost Uncle of mine or something because our last name was Carson. I still remember my disappointment when my Mom explained to me that we weren't related to him. Ok, so I wasn't the sharpest crayon in the box.

Question-What do you step in when you follow three Wackas?

Also, when he told Dolly Parton that he'd give a years salary to look down her blouse.

11. Around 1975...
...when he did a send-up of "Rhinestone Cowboy".

and

Any Rodney Dangerfield appearance. He wouldn't let Johnny interview him. When he got over to the couch, he'd just keep up the routine for 10 minures and then lean back right before the commercial and say "O.K. Johnny, bring out the next guy!"

13. Rhinestone Cowboy!
Gawd, I remember that.

And at the end, he's riding off on that mule, and he fell off. :D

And who can forget when Dom DeLuise did a little trick with some eggs, and by the end of the show, Johnny, Dom, and Burt Reynolds had literally their pants full of eggs, water, and whipped cream.

My Mom and I watched it, and my Mom laughed so hard she had to run and change her pants and underwear, which had me laughing even harder.

And those crazy stunts, like when he fell into an airbag.
"Now I know how Wilt Chamberlain feels every morning!" :D

14. My favorite moment
was when Johnny had the "potato chip lady" on (the woman who collected potato chips that resembled people's faces). And during the interview, Johnny ate a potato chip. I laughed so hard it triggered bronchial spasms!

16. One night Burt Reynolds cut off his tie.
I don't remember why, but Carson was shocked, and couldn't do anything about it because the audience was going nuts, and Johnnie Carson was first, last, and always, a performer.

20. I remember that! He said he didn't like his tie...
and then just snipped it off!

There were so many moments like that on this show. It was always like you were at some wacky cocktail party with all the cool, smart people.

19. His duet with Julio Iglesias on "To All the Girls I've Loved Before"
Johnny was duded up as Willie Nelson and sang the whole song straight through as Willie in a perfect imitation. It was just awesome.

23. The eyeball behind him in 1984
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 08:46 AM by Dzimbowicz
to represent 'Big Brother' and to commemorate Orwell. He stated that the eyeball was removed after only a few programs owing to complaints from viewers who could not stop looking at the eyeball, thus distracting them from the show.

Or... when they had that 23 foot boa constrictor on the show which was found under that house in Florida. It took something like six people to stretch it out on stage. Then, I think it was Jim Fowler, said: 'I think the snake is becoming distressed because of the lights....' The crew had a difficult time putting that snake back in its carrying box.

24. George Gobels (sp?).....
"Ya ever feel like the world is a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown shoes." I believe that was the same night that a drunken Dean Martin flicked his cigarette ash into George's drink.......Carson almost peed himself laughing.
