Does it annoy you when they release Special Edition DVDs?
Especially after buying the "regular edition" just a few months earlier?

:nopity:

2. Argh, yes.
I got the first box set of Pee-Wee's Playhouse for Christmas, and I'm thinking of buying the second. No extras included, but who cares, right?

However, I've just learned that they're putting out a "deluxe" version later this year with said extras.

Damn! Couldn't we all have just waited another year???

4. not really
If I'm that into a movie where I'd buy the DVD, I'd probably find out if there was an upcoming SE and decide whether or not to wait for it...

and, to be honest, I hardly ever watch the extra features unless they're integrated into the movie, like with the Lord of the Rings extended versions.

5. this made me think of this smiths song
PAINT A VULGAR PICTURE
At the record company meeting
On their hands - a dead star
and ooh, the plans that they weave
and ooh, the sickening greed
At the record company party
on their hands - a dead star
the sycophantic slags all say:
"I knew him first, and I knew him well"
Re-issue! Re-package! Re-package!
Re-evaluate the songs
double pack with a photograph
Extra Track (and a tacky badge)
A-list, playlist
"Please them, please them!"
"please them, please them!"
(sadly, THIS was your life)
but you could have said no
if you'd wanted to
BPI, MTV, BBC
"Please them!, Please them!"
(sadly, this was your life)
but you could have said no
if you'd wanted to
you could have walked away
...couldn't you?
I touched you at the soundcheck
you had no real way of knowing
in my heart I begged "please, take me with you...
I don't care where you're going..."
But to you I was faceless
I was fawning, I was boring
just a child from those ugly new houses
who could never begin to know
who could never really know
Best of! Most of!
Satiate the need
slip them into different sleeves!
Buy both, and be deceived
climber - new entry, re-entry
World tour! ("media whore")
"Please the Press in Belgium!"
(THIS was your life...)
and when it fails to recoup?
Well, maybe:
You just haven't earned it yet, baby
I walked a pace behind you at the soundcheck
you're just the same as I am
what makes most people feel happy
leads us headlong into harm
so, in my legs down to the knees
but me and my `true love'
we will never meet again...
At the record company meeting
on thier hands - at last! - a dead star!
but they cannot taint you in my eyes
no, they cannot touch you now
No, they cannot hurt you my darling
they cannot touch you now
but me and my `true love'
will never meet again

7. It depends whether they announce it first.
Like they did with Lord of the Rings. They said before the normal DVD even came out that they "Special Edition" would be released shortly afterwards. In that case, I didn't mind because I knew to wait for the one I wanted. It's when they keep retweaking a movie, like Terminator 2, that it gets on my nerves.

I shudder to think how many times Lucas is going to re-brand the Classic Trilogy now that he's finally put it out on DVD. There were like 6-7 VHS boxed sets as it was.

9. LOTR SE DVD
When they announced the LOTR Special Edition DVD, they made it clear the SE would be the extended version of the movie.

You knew beforehand you were going to get the director's cut, and not a bunch of worthless special features.

8. Only one reason to buy a special edition DVD
And that's if you're into the special features.

I owned more than 500 DVDs, and the vast majority of special features are worthless.

I'd rather pay $19.99 for a regular DVD than $24.99 for a special edition DVD.
