Why is Ebay threatening to delete my nonexistent account?
Hey,

I've never used Ebay, have no interest in it, but today got a threatening email saying that they are going to delete my account and not let me use Ebay again! Making matters worse they tell me not to respond to their GDMF threatening email! I did anyhow and told them to go to hell.

WTF!?! Anyone have a clue?

5. Scam Spam?
There's e-mails going around claiming to be from financial companies trying to get account numbers, passwords, etc. I've gotten bogus e-mails claiming to be from "Citibank" and "PayPal".

Be careful.

6. Yep, probably a scam.
A lot of these scam sites will tell you that you need to click on a link and login to correct some 'problem'. The link shows as a valid link to whatever service, but it really directs you to a site to collect your info. The site you are redirected to is set up to look like the actual valid site. Some will even pop up a java window to look like you address bar - it'll pop up to cover up their actual address so that people will think they are logging into the actual service. Nasty.

I've gotten them for Visa as well as ebay. I've turned them into the respective sites security centers.

10. they might just be fishing for active e-mail addresses ...
And by "they" I mean someone other than eBay. I have an account there, and the company claims that they don't attempt to get in touch with customers that way. (I imagine that they've been contacted by lots of puzzled or enraged people in the past.)
