A pretty sad state of affairs, if you ask me...

:wtf:

1. i too weep a silent tear . . .
when will people ever learn?

seriously though . . . i don't think THAT many people dislike children, i think many people who CHOOSE not to have children (and i am one of them - i can take them in small doses) don't want EVERYONE ELSE'S children inflicted on them.

(and make a strong effort to be good parents) don't want the children of other people inflicting us at the wrong time. Hell, if I'm paying a babysitter to go to a movie at 10:00 at night for a much needed night out, why should I have to hear someone else's whining toddler because they have inappropriate expectations for their child and are ineffectual parents? Stay home or go earlier at least.

I just think you should be able to sue their parents if the parents bring them to a restaurant.

and skipped their childhoods altogether.

That or they are really insecure adults, intimidated by children.

A poorly behaved human of any age is extremely irritating.

I'm just mostly indifferent to 'em.

Kids are individuals just like adults are--some are cool, some aren't. I don't like anyone just because they're a kid. And I dislike any stranger who screams in my ear regardless of age, unless I'm at a metal concert where it's OK. :headbang:

code of conduct and no ethics are repulsive and have no place in MY world.

I have the right to reject that which is not worthy of my attention.

14. It's not that I don't like children
What I really don't like is bad parenting. Selfish parenting. I don't like badly behaved children. Which once again comes down to parenting. And I don't like the expectation that I should be thrilled by someone else's reproduction. Any idiot can have a baby and apparently most of the idiots do. It takes skill and talent and hard work to be a good parent, though. For those who are I have admiration.

Khash.

15. Yeah, but their dislike will come back on them.
People who don't like to be around children age much quicker. They don't realize that being in the company of children keeps you active. Children make you think and their activities keep you moving and laughing.

Children are life in motion.

27. HAH
My husband is an attorney who practices family law.

We have several divorce clients who think nothing of bringing their children to appointments (I do have some sympathy for those who don't have any child care).

I get to baby-sit while they talk with the lawyer...and some kids make me feel VERY old!!!

Naughty, naughty, naughty!! And some parents act as if, since they are not at home, there is no reason to discipline. (Or maybe they don't discipline at home either).

I don't want kids at my desk, on my computer, eating all the candy in the candy jar...etc.

I mean...duh!

Why did you let them sit at your desk? And if you know children are coming, why do you leave the candy jar out if you don't want them to eat it?

To put it bluntly, why are YOU letting them run you?

37. Are you freakin kidding me?
What am I supposed to do?

Okay, I'll lock up the candy (no reason all the other clients should have access to it)

I'll sit at my reception desk (and not at the desk that I use to do my work - the desk with the computer) Or I'll sit at my computer desk (and the people who come in will just have to stand in the reception room and wait until the children are gone before I acknowledge them)

Oh, wait, I can't sit at two desks at once, so how do I keep the lovely children away from them? I should only have one desk that I sit at all day so that no little children gets into it...I should have known, thank you for educating me - I'll ditch one desk this very moment.

I'm not their parent...I don't think it's appropriate to discipline a child when their parents are RIGHT THERE. I expect their PARENTS to set boundries.

Silly me. Having expectations.

17. But they're so annoying!
I guess I just don't have a lot of patience for kids...they're loud and screechy and they climb on things and get into things and run around like crazy. They're just so uncivilized!

Although a lot of my annoyance is actually directed at parents.

I think part of the problem that a lot of adults have kids, but they don't want to bother to be parents, so they don't pay attention to their kids at all. So the pool tables at the bowling ally get ruined because the parents stand around while their kids run around on the table. Or you have to lock your doors during the day or one of the neighborhood kids will just walk into your house and start snooping around. Or you have your neighbors knocking on your door asking if you've seen the 3-year old kid that they threw out in the yard and forgot about for 4 hours (turned out he was several blocks away playing by the river).

20. Why do people HAVE to like them?
I can tolerate kids for the most part. I love my niece---she's cute at 17 months! I treat kids like I treat anyone else. I don't hold them to be anymore special than adults----they are people, just smaller. But otherwise, I am not so fond of kids.

I think a lot of people have disliked kids in the past but were fearful to bring it up. Now, many feel like that they don't have to like them or follow the script of doing so.

I wonder how many women had children due to societal norms "back in the olden days" when they really didn't want them/like them? My guess it was more than you think.

25. Thinking that maybe adults should have
SOME places and SOME times that are not ruled by children does NOT mean you dislike kids. It means that your life is more likely balanced and not ruled solely by naps and diapers and other things child.

I have 3 kids, 5 grandkids. I love them all. I mentor kids at the local shelter for abused and neglected kids to make sure they can keep up with their peers in school. I'm a Girl Scout leader and organizer. I wouldn't do any of this if I disliked kids.

But yes, sometimes I want to go to a restaurant and not have to put up with kids screaming, yelling, running around and making a mess. I'd like to go to a movie and not have to listen to 'mommy what's he doing' or crying. I'd like sometimes to have an evening with adults discussing more than homework unless it's in the context of possibly illegal homework that needs to be taken to the school board.

Kids have their place in the scheme of things. But that place isn't EVERY place.

41. Is there a thread about people disliking children?
The thread I saw was a thread about keeping sick children home and got extrapolated into accusations of disliking children when in fact, the parent who makes their kid sit down to dinner after the child vomits twice seemed to be the culprit not the child.

If there IS a thread about disliking children that is SERIOUS please reference it.
