I have a new neighbor-is bringing over brownies an appropriate gesture?
I have not introduced myself to the gal who bought the unit next to me (she moved in on March 1st). What is an appropriate housewarming? a bottle of wine? Some homemade brownies? Any ideas?

1. You can never go wrong with brownies.
Many people abstain when it comes to alcohol... and hey, who doesn't love brownies? :)

6. Some beautiful tulips might be nice about this time of year
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 07:42 PM by Quakerfriend
... I've got new neighbors myself! Just moved in yesterday, so I've got the same dilemma.

I'd rule wine out though, as you don't know if perhaps she is a recovering alcoholic.:hi:

18. I agree with this one
Brownies or cookies: she might be on a diet or be diabetic.
Wine: she might hate wine, not drink, or otherwise.

Tulips: don't think ANY one is allergic to tulips ... and they are spectacular this time of year.

8. I have new neighbors, too.
I want to do something similar...maybe cookies...and am curious if it's appropriate.

9. Too bad you don't live close to me
I have a pan of brownies cooling right now that you could borrow.

I had a brownie craving and gave in.

The only other thing that would replace brownies would be something that is your specialty, i.e., home baked bread, another dessert, or something crafty. Any gesture will be welcome, I'm sure!

11. If she says: "DAMN YOU! How dare you bring me fresh brownies!"
... then you'll know you're dealing with a psychopath.

Otherwise, I know she'll be more than happy to get them. I would!

16. that would be a great gesture!
better than wine because for all you know she is in AA and it would not be appropriate.

brownies, cookies, flowers, or just a handshake, introduction and ask if she needs help with unpacking or whatever.

19. Brownies are always nice.
Anything homemade is a wonderful gesture-whether they are dieting or not.
I have also made the layered jar kits of soup-you add the dry ingredients and include the recipe. They can be stored for a long time (upwards of a year) and they are rather handy to have around (and the layers are pretty). I hand those out as presents and many people have told me how good the soup was a few weeks later.
