...and I don't know which one. They all sleep there (although not all together, usually). None of them would THINK of peeing there, so I'm concerned that it might be a sign of FUS. None seem otherwise untoward, and none react when I rub their bladders, but it still scares the shit out of me. I lost a cat to FUS a few years ago. Damn.

My cat peed on the bed and ruined the mattress, but I thought that was because I left the country for ten days. She only had some friends of mine come in to feed her and play with her for not very long each day. She missed me.

Not the perfect solution. But, they were cat people, and they seemed all right with it. It was definitely more expensive to replace the mattress than to put her in a kennel. :shrug:

It could just be a general discomfort. I took mine to the vet and it turned out to be a bowel obstruction. Nothing a little medication and more water didn't fix.

to see if one is crying when it pees? Fortunately, I've never had that problem with my cats (that's probably 'cause of my 7 cats total over the years, only 2 males).

10. Don't know if it's a family trait

but just keep an eye on him. I really love cats and don't like to see them hurting (yeah, I'm a romantic). My baby was 16.5 when he got feline leukemia and we had to put him down. I cried for 3 days and was zombie-fied for a week. He was my pride and joy. Part Maine Coon/part Ginger. I still miss him.

11. oh, that's the hardest trip to the vet imaginable....

I've done it a few times over the years, and I still cry whenever I think about it. I know I'll have to do it again. It's the one thing I do that I don't regret so much as wish I could do ANYTHING to change.

on edit-- I have an utterly fantastic vet who meets me at the side door when it's time to pull the plug so I won't have to sob in the waiting room. She comes to the house for cats who are freaked by the trip to the office so they can die peacefully at home. It still never gets any easier.

but get your kitties checked out. I lost a cat to kidney failure 3 years ago, so I feel your concern 100%.

If it makes you feel better I have a 14.5 year old cat who occasionally pees outside the box, but he is in SUPERB health. I also have 4 dogs so I wonder if sometimes he just gets cornered. My cat is what I call "fat and sassy, frisky and fresh!" but even he has accidents, etc. (Hell, who doesn't?)

Anyhow, get all of your kitties checked, and hopefully they are all okay. That is the only way you will know for sure.
