15. you probably never bought, or listened to
the Pac-man fever album.
"I got a pocket full of quarters
and I'm headed to the arcade.
I don't have alot of money
but I'm bringing every thing I made
I got a callus on my finger and my shoulder's hurtin' too
I'm gonna eat 'em all up, just as soon as they turn blue."
Yes, there was a whole album with a song for various games. My baby sister owned a copy that I listened to several times.

6. Yie Ar Kung Fu

This game (which I believe Konami released in 1985) was an early predecessor to Street Fighter II and their ilk. You had to fight against characters who uses throwing stars, tonfas, nun-chucks, you name it using only your hands and feet. I can't even remember how many quarters I pumped into this thing, but it must have been many hundreds. A true classic.

It emulates the hardware of old fashioned and modern arcade machines. The thing about it is this, it needs the software to run, called ROMS, some are public domain now, some are not, use your own discretion and search(Google) if you want to.

26. I got that way after a while, but more so with a couple of the
sub-games than others. I was great at killing the spider things to get into the communication tower, but for some reason I'd always get croaked by the blocks in the tower itself.

I was moderately okay at tanks, and was pretty damned good at the light cycles.

47. Here's my old Mame cabinet

My homebrew 'tempest wheel' was really nice.. Almost like the real one. It was made from a modified mouse, a stereo volume knob and big ass steel washers for the flywheel.

I had to break it down because it was a bear to move. I'll build another one when I settle down in a few years.

I'm thinking about building one for my computer, trying to think of a modular design so I can break it down easily, and I'm NOT going to pay 500+ dollars on an empty cabinet.

79. Modular is key..
I built that cabinet from scratch with particle board, but if you want an empty cabinet you can get them for $10 or less if you shop around. I've actually bought working uprights for $10.

I've owned:
Mappy - $25 (This game kicks ass, if you've never played it)
Omega Race - $20
Space Duel - Free (but had a bad monitor)
Tempest - $10 (monitor only lasted a few months)
Asteroids - $20
MAME cabinet - About $50 in materials not including the PC.

My next MAME project will probably just be a desktop control box. Real arcade joysticks and buttons are a necessity for playing real arcade games, but the big cabinets are just too big to be practical.

55. Yep, that's it....
Puckman was first introduced to the Japaneses arcades market at the midle of 1980. The voracious little critter caught the hearts and imaginations of the public like no other game and is the hallmark of the golden age of video games.

Puckman was conceived at lunchtime... literally. So the story goes, the designer Toru Iwatani, who was 26 at the time, was very hungry and ordered a whole pizza for himself. He took one slice and Puckman was born. However, in later years Iwatani has suggested the shape was based on the Japanese character 'kuchi', meaning mouth. He rounded off this shape, and created the classic shape. The game took 1 1/2 years to complete and had five people on its team. Puckman is the greatest selling arcade game of all time and is arguably the most well-known video character. It had its own cartoon, lunch box, board game and hundreds of other products. Puckman was also the first game to have a 'character' and changed the face of video games forever. Puckman was the first video game to be as equally popular to women as it was with men.

The name Puckman (later changed to Pacman) comes from a Japanese slang term - paku paku - which describes the motion of the mouth opening and closing during eating.

After the 255th level, Puckman locks up. This lockup does not occur if, at the end of level 254, the number '255' appears at any point within your score.

The alien spaceship "Galaxian" makes an appearance as a bonus item in the later levels.

Your the WINNER!!!! Here's a cookie!

Yes Pac Man was an amazing game - it was just magic. Hard to explain. It was destined to become an icon.

But, Ms. Pac really perfected it. Bouncing fruit, changes mazes, etc.

Oddly, Ms. Pac-Man was made in America and not Japan.

But my all time life changing game of that time was Dragon's Lair.

But can be fixed/upgraded with modern technology. I'm constantly on the lookout for a broken Tempest upright. The monitor goes and the owners give them away for a song. As soon as I see one for under $50, it's mine.

The Bally/Midway game where you're a clown on a unicycle popping balloons. I could get a score of 36,000,000+ on that console, which would take at least five hours. I guess I could have gone for a record if I was really that motivated - that was when I was a teen.

82. I don't think it was ever an arcade game.
I think it was limited to home consoles like the Atari 1600 and Intellivision. Intellivision...wow...forever ago.

it's Super Mario Bros. However you slice it, it's Super Mario Bros., with Ms. Pac Man a close second.
