7. You make a good point.
Goofy as in fairly innocent & positive, I guess. The mid 90s was my intro to hip hop, so I took it kind of slow at first.

Ok - I could have also added Nature of a Sista - Queen Latifah, but I didn't want you to laugh me off your poll....

100. Stop listening to the radio. There's your problem.
Seriously Definitive Jux (Def Jux) is putting out some really classy stuff, as is Anticon (I mean the label, as I don't think the group has put out anything as collective since their first 12").

Rhymesayers is still putting out quality stuff (mark414 mentioned Madvillain in the post above this. Quality. MF Doom is MMMMM good).Same goes for the Stones Throw label.

There's quality all over the place, De La Soul is still really entertaining, Immortal Technique is keeping the underground conciousness/rebel spirit alive.

STOP LISTENING TO THE RADIO... :)

No university station in your town? They're about the only places left with any diversity. And even the big campus stations I hear have some problems with Clear Channel infestation... Personally, I can't understand why anyone would turn on a radio these days. It's not like you don't get enough of the crap being forced down your throat just walking around outside as far as modern pop music goes.

And I wasn't really like, being serious or anything. Just messing around. ;)

60. Bringing back the good memories man (very long; my vote is for Tupac).....
Back when rap was good and not dominated by this damn bling bling, Sean Combs/Nelly/Ja Tool pop crowd :puke: .

From those choices, it would be a very close call between 36 Chambers, The Chronic, and Ready to Die. 36 Chambers launched the Clan, and was a loaded CD with Bring Da Ruckus, Chessboxin', WTCANTFW, CREAM, Method Man, and Protect Ya Neck. The Chronic exploded Dre's popularity, and also got Snoop started. You can't go too wrong with Let Me Ride, Nuthin but a G thing, and Dre Day. Ready to Die launched Biggie, and had the title song, Juicy, and Big Poppa.

My vote would go to one not on there, Tupac's All Eyez on Me. In addition to being the last album released while he was alive (IIRC, Makaveli was the month after he left us), it might have had the most hits of any CD I've ever listened to. I might be stretching a tiny bit as it was a 2 CD set, but the whole thing was just so damn solid. Ambitionz as a Ridah, All About You, How do you want it, 2 of Amerikaz most wanted, Life Goes On, Only God can judge me, California Love, I ain't mad atcha, Can't c me, Shorty wanna be a thug, Holla at me, Thug Passion, Picture me rollin, and All eyes on me = WOW! This was pretty much a 'greatest hits' level CD without being released as such.

77. You are correct -- released March 1990
and "Fight the Power" was a single in the summer of '89. :)

Snoop's The Doggfather would be at the top of my own list, however.

68. Tough Choice
There were so many great hip hop albums in the 90's it's hard to pick just one.

Here's a few not on that list:
GZA - Liquid Swords
Raekwon the Chef - Only Built for Cuban Linx
Common Sense - The Ressurection
Ice Cube - Death Certificate

Objectively speaking, it probably has to be the Wu-Tang Clan (when I listen to Protect ya Neck, its almost unbelievable that they could stick so many MCs on one track and not have one wack verse), but my favourite from that time is Ice Cube's Death Certificate. A classic mix of knowledge, knowledge and more knowledge.

Death Certificate was groundbreaking and prophetic, and Blackstar is one of my all-time faves of any genre.
