Van Demolishes Minneapolis Salon
Whee, I get to post a Matcom-like article!

I actually drove past the building in question about two hours after the incident, and it was as shown in the photo. It looked like the aftermath of a gas exposion, with the first floor corner space totally demolished and the second floor sagging onto the sidewalk. The fact that one van crash could do that much damage does't say much for the structual integrity of the building. :scared:

**************

A van crashed into a hair salon at 24th St. and Hennepin Av. S. in Minneapolis on Sunday morning, leaving a gaping hole in the storefront and causing the second floor to partly collapse.

Emergency crews responded to the Sudz Salon at 2400 Hennepin about 8 a.m. and extracted the van's driver from the wreckage. A medical condition likely caused the man to veer off Hennepin, hit a traffic light and then smash into the salon lobby, said Paul Nemes, a captain with the Minneapolis Fire Department.

3. And I'd like to add that
the traffic light he knocked out was not functioning, either when I drove north in the morning nor when I came back the other way late in the afternoon. Imagine that on Hennepin Avenue!

4. OMG! That's a VERY busy intersection!!!
I try to avoid Hennepin like the plague because the traffic is so bad, I can just imagine what it's like when that light's out.

(Note to self: stay out of Uptown until further notice)
