So, this tornado went down my street today. No, for real...
The radio folks called it a tornado, but tv weather is calling it a "superburst" or something. All kinds of damage in my neighborhood. I'm okay, all 12 of our rescues (dogs) are okay, the house is okay. Power is back on (obviously). I didn't even know until around 4pm today. I was going to the gym, and heard it on the radio, so I raced home. Weird friggin weather.

Here's the story:

1. You'all are becoming a regular disaster alley.
But I'm sure it's NOT as result of any global warming, that is just fundie propaganda. ;)

Glad you're OK.

2. I've been in two tornados in my life
The first one was when I was two, and a large tree fell on me, fracturing my skull and giving me a concussion.

The second one was when I was ten, and I slept right through it. I fell asleep in the basement, where I was hiding, home alone, when a tornado warning was issued.

To this day tornados scare me sh!tless. I'm glad to hear you and your rescues are okay.

(sending good karma your way)

3. Where'd this happen?
I live in Holiday, and all we had was a lot of rain.

7. My neighborhood in Tampa.
They're calling it a "microburst" where the weather just kind of makes a big PUSH through. The destruction is in a path about a 1/2 mile wide by 2 miles long.

I/we are very lucky.

4. In 2003
my county had 38 recorded touchdowns in a week (it was in May). Lots of damage but no real injuries. Most were just F1's.

On our Trick or Treat day of this year (Oct. 29) we had a tornado touchdown right outside of town during the trick or treat time. Had to take cover w/ hundreds of crying kids in a church basement. Then we had to cancel our Kerry rally scheduled for the next day-damage to the county fairgrounds site (where it was going to be held).

5. Funny, they like to call tornado's "straight winds" here, even when you
see them with your own lying eyes. ;)

6. We had a supercell rip up our neighborhood about 10 years ago
We were so incredibly lucky, because we lost huge limbs from the main trunk of a silver maple...over a foot in diameter...but the ones that were precariously hanging over the roof remained. A couple of neighbors had trees cave their roofs in, power lines were down all over the place. We had no electricity for 3 days. But nobody was injured, fortunately.

Sorry to hear about your nightmare!
