3. You should have asked...
Did you shoot anyone today?

Then I could have responded with "The day isn't over yet".

But, you didn't ask that, so it kind of ruins the joke. :(

9. Because I have a small penis...
and I believe that every law-abiding citizen has the inalienable right to own orbital nuclear launching platforms and petri dishes of communicable virus'.

Seriously though... because I'm a responsible gun owner of about 30 years that traditionally votes Democrat, but will not budge nor back off an inch from gun control related issues.

The NRA might not be looked upon favorably by some Liberals/Democrats here, but it's the only game in town that has enabled me to keep and own the firerarms I have so far without the BS "nanny state" mentality.

can make sure we don't get evil laws passed like the ones that would ban bullet-proof-vest-piercing ammunition.

Wouldn't want them commie pinko liberals taking away our right to have bullets that can kill cops, can we? Only the NRA can protect our right to have those bullets.

(Flame away...it's my opinion. I don't like the NRA. You can if you want to.)

31. The only iota of respect I still have for Poppy Bush is for when
he turned in his NRA membership over the cop-killer bullet foofaraw.

Of course, I've grown more cynical since then, or perhaps more realistic, and wonder if Wayne Lapierre handed it back to him under the table after the fuss died down.

Ah, who cares?

34. Psssst....
Here's a hint... those kind of bullets that can be used in a handgun have already been banned.

Then again, any bullet can be a "cop killer" if applied appropriately.

See... here's the problem; there's legislation proposed that by definition of being able to penetrate bullet proof vests would ban just about every hunting/rifle round currently available.

Talk about sneaking under the radar

35. The NRA endorsed a boatload of Dems in NC
Gov, many state reps and senators.

It's the national Dem leadership that has the cranial-rectal insertion problem with firearms.

If we changed our platform to support gun owners (really support) we'd haul in a LOT of votes that support other Dem policies.

But I do hate their fundraising fearmongering. I pay my dues, and that's it.

I've got to get my skydiving gear sold so I can buy an M-1

36. Not my main area of interest right now.
Time and money is a commodity that I don't have much to spare.

There are organizations that deal with civil rights issues just like there are organizations that deal with RKBA issues... I'm only one person with limited time and resources. I can't be committed or involved in every issue.

Here's a trick question: Which former NRA president marched with MLK back when civil rights was a dirty word?

48. I guess you do have a "quandary"
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 12:04 AM by D__S
Hmmmmm, seems like a quandary to me, or at least a bit of stereotyping.

If someone had posted: "I just renewed my membership with the "National Gay and Lesbian Task Force... ask me anything"; and you, I, or anyone else here had responded with: "Do you get to hang out with NAMBLA and oil up a Cub Scout", what do you think would happen?

No... I don't "hang out with any RW nutjob survivalists", if that makes you feel at ease. :eyes:

"I'm pro-2nd amendment, BTW, but organizations that are endorsed by Charleton Heston scare me!"

Charelton Heston! Who's he? Who cares? I certainly don't (and I'm the "gun-nut" here :smoke: ). Other than his involvement with the NRA, what do you know about him that I don't know that would be cause for concern?

Because he's involved with the NRA leadership you should be scared? That doesn't make sense.

FWIW, Heston used to be involved with the Civil Rights movement back when something like that could get a person killed. And you're scared?

"I believe in RKBA, but when I look at our state of Massachusetts, which has very strict laws and low incidence of gun violence, it presents a quandary."

You believe in the RKBA? I'll take your word on that, but it depends on what you mean by belief. Do you mean you support the "individual" right as opposed to the "collective" right? This question alone is really the heart of the RKBA issue.

Do you support an assault weapons ban? Do you think guns and gun owners should be registered and licensed? Do you think police chiefs should be given broad authority in issuing CCW permits?

If you answered yes to any of the restriction questions, then your belief in the 2nd amendment is factious... that's not belief or support... it's lip service.

It's like saying I support Gay rights, but I don't think they should be allowed to get married or adopt children. Or saying I support abortion rights, but think late term abortions should be illegal.

Massachusetts? been here... done that for about 48 years now.

Yes, MA gun laws are very strict... to the point where I'm appalled, embarrassed and throughly disgusted that even the most idiotic gun laws are passed because it's "politically correct".

As a MA gun owner, I thought we'd have some relief when Cheryl Jacques resigned. But no, that didn't happen. Instead Jarret Barrios stepped up to the plate and picked-up where she left off.

The MA legislature is strange. The most ardent supporter of firearms ownership in MA is a Dem (Stephen M. Brewer; Worcester, Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin Senate District. A+ rating from GOAL
http://www.goal.org/legislation/ratings/winners.html).

Yet, Mitt Romney is a gun-grabbing ass... go figure.

Add a few other MA legislators and add in an out of control AG (Tom Reilly), and we have a "for the good of the people" collective mind set that Stalin would be proud of.

MA does have a very low incidence of firearms related violence, but so does New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont. Those 3 states have some of the least restrictive gun control laws in the nation; Vermont doesn't even require a permit or licensing for concealed carry .

I guess in that respect it comes down to the regional/Red State/Blue State/Urban/Rural thing

I'm tired of eating this shit and something has to change.

You have a quandry? I have examples, news reports and documented cases of the never ending BS.

With that in mind... I will work and campaign to get rid of Barrios, Reilly, Linsky, Balser, Wilkerson, etc. I don't care if it's for another Dem candidate, Republican, Libertarian or whom ever.

Enough is enough.

Anyhow, I really should go to the meet-up tomorrow, but I'm sick of Winter, it's supposed to be a nice day and I haven't been to the outdoor rifle range in awhile. B-)

What are you defining as "sportsman" groups? Hunting? Target/benchrest shooting? Action shooting?

What it comes down to is that the NRA is really the only game in town (DC).

I can guarantee you that just about any of those associated "sportsman" groups and/or clubs are for the most part NRA members and/or sponsored.

The NRA... accept no other. B-)

47. Yeah...
It's a dilemma.

I'm a long time staunch union member and supporter, but I can't cover all the bases at once and be satisfied (who amongst us can?).

Unions are fucked and have been ever since Reagan and the air traffic controllers thing.

I work in a very Liberal community, in a very Liberal state, in a very much needed service and still I (we) get screwed up the ass... never mind the details.

Maybe my (our) union gains are long gone, but at least the gun battle is something that has been won and something that I (we) can regain what we've lost from previous legislative sessions.
