as I read a thread--my letters went from normal size to massive huge--right before my eyes. It kept getting bigger, and bigger...WTF?

4. Do you have a scroll wheel?

Sometimes I find myself with a finger on the ctrl key and accidentally also move the scroll wheel, and that changes the font size.

Or, you could accidentally have locked something that makes the scroll wheel do it without holding the ctrl key.
