Poll question: Which office ver should I use?
Microsoft Office 2000 Premium ed. Paid for it in 2001 before the 2002 edition became the only edition out there. After all, many review sites are downplaying Openoffice, saying it's not good enough for large businesses.

Openoffice.org has a new 2.0 release. Plus, if I want to reinstall my computer, I'd have to re-enter the bullshit activation code.

1. WordPerfect Office 12
Although I would ask "why" OO is not good enough for many businesses. Methinks it's not so much features or bugs, but corporate types having problems supporting it.

Except for templates, which OO doesn't do either, I have had few problems with Word compatibility, and they are only in the most complex Word docs. Star Office is the only thing I've found that can read Word templates. (note that I might be talking through my ass here-- just got the full version of WP 12, but haven't installed it yet. I've been using the cheap Family Pack version of WP 10, which is slightly crippled.)

I use Quattro, which comes with WP Office, but don't use it enough to know how well it works with Excel.

2. I still use WP Suite 7.
It meets my needs and I'm familiar with it, so I see no need to change.

3. I use the PDF creation...

which started around V9, and there's some better image handling in the newer versions, and better columns, typesetting, etc. And support for newer Word versions. I guess you got View Codes, which is a lifesaver sometimes, and the single best WP feature I can think of. I hear M$ finally came out with something like it in Word.

Not much reason to upgrade and get all the bloat if you don't need some of the newer features buried in the bloat.

I know people writing books in WP4. And they're published.
