40 is on the horizon
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 01:23 PM by Bok_Tukalo
I can see it coming. It is going to grab me and make me admit that I'm on the down side of life. Should I fight that bastard or give in to the inevitable?

6. Ok here goes
1- more perspective on life
2- introspection is keener
3- wisdom actually percolates into your consciousness
4- you are more mature
5- you tend to be more "settled"
6- you feel stronger emotionally
7- most of the movers and shakers in the world are your age or older
8- everyone takes you seriously
9- younger women like you
10- you are a better father, if you are one

The maturity thing really says it all.

10. hmmm, ok, but...
I'm a woman.

I think it's different for males and females.

Although younger men do like me...

5. I've suddenly discovered that all these creative outlets I have embraced
may be my subconscious trying to say "hurry, fucker!"

17. 6 more months for me..
I have started buying better skin care products in the last year. if it says it helps combat signs of aging, i will buy it.

A lot of people tell me they thought i was only about 30 but i tell them that is just because i am so immature.

22. LOL
Love the immature response. Mind if I use it?

That's funny about the better skin care products too...I've been doing the same thing lately, even though I only have a few lines. Most people think I'm 8-12 years younger than I am and I let them think that whenever possible. But I know time will catch up if I don't start taking care.

The worse part, for me, is when people find out my age and then look at me "that way." I just don't FEEL 40. Of course, that could be because I traded in my first husband for a younger model a decade ago and am now married to a man 5 years my junior. ;-)

7. Embrace it!
the people who told me "life begins at 40" are the same people that told me to never "trust anyone over 30"

but I decided they were just rationalizing and enjoyed turning 40 anyway...

11. It's really OK.
If you're in good health and keep yourself in good shape, you probably won't "feel" much different in your 40s than in your 30s, or even look much different. That's been my experience -- YMMV.

13. Age is a state of mind
It truly is! I'm turning 43 two days after you're turning 40, and I don't feel a day over 30!

18. Your 40s are where you get to decide what you REALLY want...
...to do with the rest of your life. It's actually quite liberating.

Me, I threw away a two decade career as a technical writer to take up writing fantasy and science fiction. I couldn't be happier.

Well, actually, I could. I have this fab manuscript that needs a publisher. ;)

20. Good point
I started law school the day before my 40th birthday, having finally gotten around to making the decision to apply (after wanting it since high school, but with life intervening) in my 39th year.

21. Yeah, it is pretty sad.
I'm a guy here, will turn 37 in a few days, can see 40 not that far away. Marriage never happened for me, neither did riches. I'm happy on a day-to-day basis, and am really very healthy and youthful (except for my hair leaving me!) But this is what gets me about reaching this kind of age:

I remember being a kid, say elementary school age, when summer vacation came around - 2 months or more off school - and when it started, it seemed like an eternity of freedom stretching out in front of oneself. And I always did enjoy it. And the first week was like a lifetime, the second week, almost the same. The first month passed slowly. But then the second half went so fast, and boom, before you knew it, there was a chill in the air and it was time for school again. I'm sure life is like that too. I don't feel that old at all, but here I am, just exactly half way through life just about: and before I know it, boom, I'll be dead! That's the real issue I have with these kind of ages.
