Billy Joe Shaver (again)...

I had posted on here about my quest to find out who had sung a song I heard on free-form radio station WFMU. After finding the playlist it turns out it was a song called Eagle on The Ground by Billy Joe Shaver. People on here recommended picking up other stuff by him as well and I'm slowly but surely doing that. I really dislike country music (even of the non-right wing variety), but there is just something in this guys voice and words that is just totally great.

The words and music on the album Billy and the Kid, which was his son Eddy's unfinished album that Billy completed after Eddy died of a drug overdose are just heartbreaking.

One of the greats of real country music. Absolutely brilliant and heartbreaking songwriter. He's never made it big, but I think he's the best.

Check out Dale Watson, another real country musician who's never gotten his due.

Billy Joe and Kinky Friedman and others did a live album in Australia that's a work of pure genius.

..You can just hear the pain of this guys life on his voice like no other artist I've ever heard.
