So I just got an iPod.

What should I know about it?

On edit: Will the iPod charge through the USB or Firewire port or must it go AC style?

1. Get a case for it.

The little buggers scratch like crazy, and if you're anywhere near as clumsy as me, you'll drop it a lot too.

So you keep the iPod inside, but open the velcroed flap.

3. You'll never get close to the 12 hours of battery life they advertise.

But apart from that, it's a fantastic little device. It's been AWESOME to have on my recent plane rides, and with a Sony cassette adapter, I can listen to my entire music collection in my car.

10. Here's all you need to know...

The earphones will break in about 5 minutes
iTunes will drive you MAD
USB doesn't work properly
Firewire works ok - but not on laptops
The battery will always go flat at the worst possible moment ;)

Apart from that you should be fine.

15. Only semi-related...

I'm borrowing my dad's 512MB iPod Shuffle for the week and I really like it. I like that I can stuff it full of music (currently 158 songs rather than the average 120, but some of 'em are pretty short) and that it weighs next to nothing. It's made me seriously consider picking up the 1MB version for myself.
