I almost lost EINSTEIN Today.
What a day. The taxi was supposed to be here at 9AM for a 9:30 appt. They were squeezing me in. Well, he never showed up so I called the cab company to send another cabby. My luck, he has been driving for 4 days and an $11 cab ride turned into a $24.35 because he got so lost (no I didn’t pay it!)t. He was mad at me for not knowing where the Hospital was?? We knew his teeth are in terrible shape, but when I saw the vet 1 month ago she was worried about his high sugar level and wanted to stabilize his sugar before we could consider putting him under anesthesia. I have been feeding him IAMS baby food and seemed to be doing better until this week. Overnight he stopped eating and he got so skinny you could feel all his bones. In 1 month (really 2 weeks) he lost over 2 lbs. When I left Atlanta 5 years ago he was 12 lbs and the Vet yelled at me because he was too fat. Today he is less 6 lbs! They have him an IV of fluids, human baby food and sent me home with all kinds of meds including insulin that I have to give him 2X daily. His temperature was dangerously low that they gave me a wrapped water bottle ( which I have in his bed and he loves it) that I need to put in the microwave to heat it up. I need to put some stuff in his litter, which will turn color to tell them how his sugar is doing. They pulled the infected canine tooth that ulcerated his upper lip. I’m sure his mouth hurts so I went to the market and bought more baby food and corn syrup to ease the pain besides everything else. We have to go back on Thursday morning to see the Vet. My 82 (almost 17) year old baby is getting old and I’m not ready to loss him.
Would everyone pray for him.

4. You should report the cabby or at least the company
If they have an agency that oversees taxis AND should also report the problem to your city councilperson.

5. When the time comes, you'll know when to let him go... Either naturally as
most of us probably prefer, or by a visit to the vets when you can no longer bear his suffering.

It's hard. I've been there too many times myself, just earlier this month with a two year old cat who died of heart failure in the vet's office just as the vet got her into the examining room, before they even started the necessary procedures to put her to sleep.

I think she did that for us. Difficult as it was, it made it easier to know that it was her decision to let go, not ours.

My thoughts are with you and Einstein.
