Question about bathroom remodeling (tiling, specifically)
I hate to complain, but my partner thinks I need to. (He won't complain.) We have a guy retiling our bathroom, and right now, before the grout is in, occasionally the tile doesn't quite align. Some of the small square tiles are off by maybe 1/4". Is that normal? or is that wrong? In addition to that, because the tub is about a 1/2" shorter than the space where it is, the bottom row of tile (the row that touches) the tub slants in about 1/4". Is that normal? The tiler says it will look fine when the grout is put in, but my partner thinks otherwise. Since I'm not too fussy, I'm hardly the one to judge such matters. Anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks.

1. It's wrong.
Think about it. Have you ever seen nice bathrooms tiled that way?

If the tile is too long for the bottom row, it should be cut, not slanted.

The tile should be straight, not off by 1/4" here and there.

What you are describing sounds like an amateur tiling job.

3. The contractor is not doing it right.
Sorry. It will always be an eyesore. Get him to fix it before he grouts. Everything should be straight, nothing should slant. A quarter inch is a lot of wiggle room. A 1/16th would be reasonable, maybe. A 1/4 is huge.

4. No amount of grout is ever going to make slanted tiles looks right.
I know. I did my own tile work in the bathroom. A blind man could see where things aren't quite 'square'.
