Ugly Cars
I'm not talking about old clunkers that people are forced to drive because they have no other choice...

I'm talking about brand new factory vehicles that people are proudly driving around while you are thinking wtf.

Case in point: The Chevy SSR "Truck." Yours for only $45,000 :puke:

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

60. I *love* my PT Cruiser and here's why!
It looks like this (not some gross non-standard version you posted):

It was inexpensive. Compact (no big, gas guzzling SUV), the seats can come out altogether, or fold over, for carrying lots of stuff.

I love its ability to make an impromptu picnic table in the back:

And I love its cue ball stick shift:

It's a great car, so bite me. :P

The only thing non0standard about the PT Cruiser I posted were the flame decals. If you walk up to your car and look at the hood, it will look just like the photo posted with the bumper nearly scraping the road, and the hood deflated....

75. Chrysler "manufactured" the cult of the P/T Cruiser...
I have no beef against them...and I've had them as rentals a few times. They're actually fun to drive.

But Chrysler helped set-op the infrastructure of 'enthusiast clubs' before the Cruiser was even on the market.

PT CRuiser story: I sometimes wirk with a bona-fide biker from a Gang Which Shan't Be Named, and he drives a PT with flames on the side, DARK tinted rear windows, tricked out chrome, etc.

I teased him once about his "soccer mom" Cruiser, and he said "I'd rather be driving my bikes, but every now and then I need to transport something wouldn't fit on a Harley, and there's tons of room in the back!" :scared:

42. Somehow the aerodynamic of the box fall short
I drove a Honda Prelude for 15 years. Not the prettiest car in the world, but the thing that amazed me was how aerodynamically sound it was. Almost never got a bug splot on the grill, hood or windshield--all were swept right over the top.

(I did collect a kamakazi woodpecker on the grill once, who actually lived to tell the tale.)

78. I disagree...
I think the new one needs a "turn signal hood", not a hoodscoop. Something needs to break up the monotony of the hood, but I think a scoop isn't the answer (plus it would only be decorative, as the real intake is right behind the grille).

all I have to say is pfffffffffffffft! :D I curse you for saying the name of my car in the SAME SENTENCE as Aztec and H2!! A curse be upon you!

I love my Element. It's almost perfectly designed for me. And for all you haters out there - everyone I know or have encountered in real life that yammer on about how fugly Elements are have walked away singing an entirely different tune after checking out the inside, it's features, and, for some, taking it for a quick drive around the block.

81. agreed they're going for a niche market
playing on subliminal associations. So far NO car manufacturers have hit on anything I could "love." (That weinermobile comes close, though). Car salesmen insist a car is "an emotional purchase" and love to tell you about the guy who came in for a pickup and drove out with the sports car. But for most people, it's a practical decision based on function and price, emotional responses taking a back seat. There are worse things than car fetishes I guess.

there is something kind of sinister about that thing. It has a kind of quasi-military look to me...was there a similar vehicle in old WWII movies, driven by the SS? I don't pay much attention to car makes and models, but maybe some car buffs can tell me why I would have an inexplicable aversion to this car.

70. My husband lusts for one of those
but it just isn't practical for us. Plus, I'd worry about him in a mini-Cooper on Atlanta's interstates. He has a Saab which he professes to love....but I know he's lusting for a mini-Cooper.
(he's at their website almost every day...)

Only with a substantial discount, and it HAS TO be yellow like that one. They only look good in yellow.

92. No doubt that one of the worst.. However with the Celica...
Toyota is sliding downward. Late 80s ones were beautiful.

BTW, I like most of the "retro" cars: PT Cruiser, Beetle, SSR, Scion B.

83. Looks to me like they're recycling the old classics
Like the '51 Chevy/GM trucks. Same curved hood, same bulbous fenders, though they curved the cab even more than the '51. All in all, I'll stick with the classics.

85. Most autos made by American companies are ugly
Dodge/Chrysler seems to head the list of ugly vehicle manufacturers. Most look like bubbles and blobs.
