What do you think is the best Lyric from a song Thread 2
The first is getting kind of big....rememeber credit for this thread still goes to NewYawker99.

I say a good lyric is..... James Brown's "The Boss"

"Look at me! Know whatca see? YA SEE A BAD MOTHA!"

Or how about:

"Finland Finland Finlad...the country where I want to beee eating breakfast or dinner, or just watching TV"

And I stick by my first one of JOhnny Cash's

"MY NAME IS SUE! HOW DO YOU DO? NOW YOU GONNA DIE!"

Followed up with

"Kickin' and a gougin inthe mud and the blood and the beer"

1. I wish I were like you, easily amused
I kind of like that one from Nirvana.

2. "All the hard days are gone ...
"it's all beer and whiskey and songs from now on,
"laughing at darkness and dancing till dawn.
"All the hard days are gone. "

The McKrells -- and Upstate NY Irish-Bluegrass group -- what's not to love about that lyric?

3. My heart is a flower - King Missile
My heart is a flower,
Budding, Blooming,
Dripping dew,
Dropping petals all over the place,
Making a big hopeless mess,
Stinking things up,
Waiting for someone to come flying over,
To suck the pollen out of me.
Suck me dry.
'Til I wilt.
'Til next Spring.

4. Well, I Think the Best Song Lyrics are More than Just a Line
and sometimes don't sound as good written out.

"Alison" by Elvis Costello I think is one of the best pop songs ever written. But it doesn't have a single zinger in its lyrics. He has lots and lots of others. Here's one:

"Well I finally found someone to turn me upside down
And nail my feet up where my head should be.
If they had a King of Fools then I could wear that crown,
And you could not die laughing because I'll wear it proudly.

I'll wear it proudly through the dives and the dance halls
If you wear it proudly through the snake pits and catcalls.
Like a fifteen year old kid wears a vampire kiss..."

Another one I like from Elvis C:

"...Look at the man that you call uncle
Having a heart 'round your ankles.

When you wake up with X-rated eyes
and you wake up still shaking
How can I apologize
As you take your effects and check your reflection
I'm so affected in the face of your affection."

Maybe it's just clever word play. The more I think about it, the harder it is to settle on any single one. It's as futile as searching for the most beautiful piece of music.

5. 32 words, that have....
a profound significance to me, personally....

You
Can dress in Pink and Blue just like a child
and in a Yellow taxi turn to me and smile
We'll
Be there in just a while
If you follow me......

from 'Steppin' Out'...Joe Jackson...

7. "In my life...why do I waste valuable time........"
with people who I'd much rather kick in the eye."

The Smiths

Pretty much sums up my feelings on a daily basis.

8. U2 Mysterious ways
One day you will look...back
And you'll see...where
You were held...how
By this love...while
You could stand...there
You could move on this moment
Follow this feeling

Like a kick in the gut and inspiration every time I hear it.

9. Be Sweet
by the Afghan Whigs....refreshing to hear such honesty from a man. ;)

Ladies, let me tell you about myself
I got a dick for a brain
And my brain is gonna sell my ass to you
Now I'm OK, but in time I'll find I'm stuck
'Cause she wants love, and I still want to fuck

11. Year Of The Cat
Year Of The Cat
Al Stewart

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolour in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat

She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat

Well, she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat

Well, morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away the choice and lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

--
I also enjoy "Time Passages" and "On The Border"
