I was phone-polled on SS reform / private accounts...
Got a call from a public opinion survey firm, the caller's ID reads "Woelfel Research" (540) 574-4625.

I don't recall all the questions verbatim, but the gist was:

  • Did I think the SS program was in a crisis and needed drastic fixes or minor problems that could be worked out.

  • Did I favor creation of private accounts or have SS continue its current way of operating.

  • Did I oppose SS reform if it meant $ 900,000,000 of costs to restructure it. Strongly oppose it or mildly oppose it.

  • Was I a repub, dem or independant.

  • Would I vote against a candidate in 2006 based on their position on SS reform.

  • Did I vote regularly.

  • The usual demographic questions.

Just wondering who is behind this research and if other DUers had thoughts on this poll.

3. pretty close...

to the responses I gave, I did not state my party affiliation but I told the pollster that I was a "fiscally very conservative" individual.

The pollster interpreted that as being repub, I thought that was pretty funny :-) knowing how the past few budgets have been administered.

When the survey was done, I asked if there was space for comments, there wasn't any but the pollster was willing to pass them along to her supervisor. So I told her that SS's probs could be fixed by raising the wage cap on SS taxes, she asked me to explain, and I did.

She said she had not known that previously and thanked me for it.

2. Woelfel...
... was commissioned by AARP to poll on the Medicare reform bill. It's possible that AARP has also paid for this survey on SS.
