Poll question: "All brands of lighter fluid taste the same." True or false?
I've heard it a gazillion times. "All brands of lighter fluid taste the same." A liquor store clerk said he'd heard glowing reports of a brand called "Potters." It says "Triple Distilled Zippo" and it's inexpensive. I just took a sip and it's smooth as silk, almost like Grey Goose.

4. Whoops!
That was my first copycat thread, BikeWriter. Didn't mean to single you out as my first victim, since you started the vodka thread. It's just that we have this absolutely hideous drink here (grappa) which, like many hard liquors, tastes like . . . guess what?

5. Not to worry, I'm flattered.
I haven't tasted the grappa. I thought it was made with the leftovers, sort of a second run?

6. Grappa.

No, it only tastes like it's made from leftovers. The "better" grappa is an industry unto itself. The old guys in our village drink it in their morning coffee ( :puke: ) , their afternoon coffee ( :puke: ) and in a special "grappa glass" alongside their after-dinner coffee.

Nearly every little village in our state has it's own little distillery. It's sort of fun to walk past it early in the morning and hear these guys drinking and swearing in Italian while they "sample" the grappa.

Here's a little information about our region's booming "lighter fluid" industry. Scroll down to "Grappa." (The red wine here is really, really wonderful, though.)

9. Completely untrue.
Zippo is the best, easily. It has distinct coriander notes on the nose with refreshing hints of citrus on the palate, and a VERY smooth finish.

11. Is Zippo the one with the devil on the label?
If so, I think it could be marketed as almost any hard liquor. I can tell that you're a true connessiuer, asthmaticeog. Might I offer you a small nip of "pinselreineger" from my studio bar?

12. Sadly, no devil.

Isn't pinselreineger a kind of paint thinner or something? If so, I'll GLADLY share a nip with you, thank you kindly!

16. Ach, meine Deutsch ist das Crap.
My dad emigrated from Hamburg in the '50s, but I really only know "schadenfreude," "scheisse" and a few art related terms here and there. Dad insisted on speaking no German at home, unless he was either super pissed-off or had just stubbed his toe, or something suchlike where he couldn't help but slip.
