5. The Manhattan Beach Pier,
in the town where I live. Cool, huh? I didn't know if there was enough daylight when I took this recently; the flash went off, as I knew it would...but it still came out.

7. Is that the pier that Forest Gump ran down?
It's an absolutely gorgious picture!

It really does look like that pier Forest Gump ran down when he was running from coast to coast in the movie.

If they shot any of the movie in California, then it could very well be the one.

Thank you for the compliment! I hope to post many more pics in the days ahead...

And in case your interested, here's the main thread from the Photo Group. It was TahitiNut's idea. Basically what we did was, we all went out on the same day and took a picture of a sunset.

And here's my New England sunset...

Some good pics, unfortunate for those in the Rockies tho...

24. Yes, it is beautiful...
However, in the summer, there's NO parking: tourists and locals CROWD THE BEACH! I try to do my shopping early before they get here. It's a mess...The winter is much better...many fewer people.

I'm sure you have beautiful things where you live, too!

They jaywalk and gawk and carry on, clog the parking and so on and so on! I feel like my little town isn't really mine in the summer...

Edited on Thu Apr-14-05 08:47 PM by RetroLounge
a week in LA and a week in San Francisco.

I much prefered everything about SF. God, I loved that city and that whole area. Climbing Mt. Tam and looking over the city was breathtaking. Seeing City Lights was a dream. Marin is gorgeous. Driving thru the redwoods and north on the coast. Wow!

Almost moved there...

31. I'd say your picture is much better than mine! Very beautiful...
I'm using a Canon PowerShot A60. It's the first digital camera I've ever had. It was a gift from my oldest daughter...This is a little point and shoot type. Someday I might want to graduate to a SLR digital type. Right now I have a Nikon N60 film camera. I understand that Nikon makes a digital camera that uses the same lenses their film cameras do. I might go that way. Any ideas on this? Thanks for your comments!

33. I went digital less than a year ago
At the time, I was shooting with a Canon Elan IIe film camera. I ended up buying the Canon 10D because the lenses I used with the film camera were compatible with the digital camera. It just made the transition much smoother on my wallet.

So yes, that's a good idea to buy a Nikon digital if you already have the lenses. But in the mean time, the Canon Powershot is a very good camera. I also have a Canon S-50 Powershot, which I use when I don't want to lug the SLR around.

I had been shooting film for several years before I went digital, but I've become a much better photographer since going digital for the simple reason that I can immediately see what I shoot instead of waiting until it gets developed.

It allows me to experiment with exposure, aperture and speed settings and not have to worry about wasting film.

So now that you have that camera, you should come down to the photography group. We usually hold photo contests every month and the next one should be getting started anytime now.

34. Thanks for your remarks! I'll check out the Photo Group.
Maybe I'll even participate in one of your contests...I'm glad to hear that my little Canon is a good one. It seems to produce well, at least so far. There's a LOT that I don't know about it yet, though. I should probably read the manual!

36. It doesn't look all that different than it did in the 1970's when I lived
in Hermosa Beach. I used to run from the Hermosa pier to the Manhattan Pier and back every night, sometimes on The Strand and sometimes, when the tide was low, on the water's edge.

That was nice.

Those were wild times in my life. I must admit though I'm much happier in New Jersey than I ever was in Hermosa Beach but that's just me.
