Four for dinner... $40. What to do?
Mind you, I don't eat very much (and there's actually something in the freezer that I can make for myself).

I just thought I'd pick something up for the kids. Pizza is always nice, and I'm sure they wouldn't complain, but I'm wondering if they'd like something different.

Their tastes vary too much to get chinese (to get a little of something that everyone will eat, I'd put out a fortune).

Burgers? Chicken?

Any other suggestions?

3. I'd go to one of those
take & bake pizza places. You can get quite a bit of decent pizza for a reasonable price amd you can get a variety of toppings.
Dessert could be gotten at the grocers, maybe ice cream? Be a lot less expensive than DQ.

5. Subway Buffet at home
and let them help make the sandwiches or do crepe's.

Fun, kids love them, you can make all varieties!

7. Tostadas.
Kids like "em because it's "build-your-own," messy, finger food.

Pretty good for you, filling & cheap.

One package flour tortillas <$2.
Two tomatoes <$3
One head of lettuce <$2
A brick of co-jack cheese <$4
Two cans refried beans <$3 (or less is you make them yourself)

Other stuff you might have on hand: olives, onions, avocado, jalapeños, salsa, spinach, sour cream, rice.

I don't know what meat costs, so you're on your own there.

The chopping takes a little time, but it's not a difficult meal to prep.

Good luck!

9. Dijourno (spelling?) frozen supreme thin crust pizza. Best frozen pizza
between 5-6.50 sometimes on sale for 2/$10.
We eat this when we can't think of anything else!
I also think tacos or spaghetti go a long way on the cheap.
Good luck!

10. Roasted, organic free-range chicken with vegies
Just made it the other day. Loaded up on potatoes, carrots, onions and celery. Covered the chicken in lemon pepper and herbs and roasted it all in a clay pot cooker at 450 F. for 85 mins.

On the side a salad and walnut bread. The whole dinner cost me about $30 bucks and fed 4 just fine.

12. Mom's pork chops
moistened and coated in mashed potato flakes; pan-sear and quickly cook. Pepper them too but save the salt as an option.

Add a vegetable and some noodles or other starch, (new potatos, maybe?) and you are dining well. It's fit for a king yet inexpensive.

13. homemade spaghetti sauce
