do bitches have menopause?
What I'm trying to do is estimate a dog's age. I believe she recently gave birth. So can I declare a maximum age? What would it be?

Thanks.

a dog can produce a litter at around 8 months old.. and I think they can still become pregnant when they are very old.. (poor things)

5. that's weird about the teeth
I knew vets could do that, but it's weird. Like looking at a tree's rings.

6. Queenie,
a retired working border collie in my area, had two pups at age fourteen! Sheepmen in my area wanted one or both pups (Lucky and Davey) in a bad way. I don't know what happened to Lucky but Davey is working sheep, gets to ride in the back of a truck, and now a prized stud to boot. I think they got the pups' names mixed up!

10. Barbara Bush is the only woman
who suffers from Premenstrual Syndrome post-Menopause, I would put Ann Coulter on the list, but transexuals don't count as women.

13. Serious answer
No.

I know this because my brother used to have a female Labrador retriever that he just never got around to getting spayed. At various times in his life, he left the dog with my mother for extended stays. The dog went into heat during one such stay at the age of twelve.

My mother called the vet to find out if the dog would ever be "too old" to go into heat, and the vet said no, that humans are the only creatures who go through menopause.

I read an article in either Scientific American or Discover a few years ago in which an anthropologist hypothesized that the evolutionary purpose of human menopause was to make sure that grandmothers could help take care of their grandchildren (since humans need longer and more complex care than other young critters) without being distracted by infants of their own.
